Billboard referred to it as a decade-defining song, writing, "Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" has since become a blueprint for the female power-pop that has blanketed radio since, with Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Pink and others building up resumes featuring comparable hooks and production."
Quote:
What's notable about that week is not just men's domination, but hip-hop's, too. It would be another year until pop began to erode hip-hop's early '00s reign, with women at the forefront of turning the tide. Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone," co-written by Max Martin, especially helped lead to pure pop's reemergence, and the breakthroughs of Rihanna, Katy Perry, Swift and Lady Gaga would soon follow (as well as Spears' own revival).
Miley and Demi have both listed Kelly as an influence, Miley mainly with her earlier songs like 7 Things. Demi has cited Kelly as her biggest inspiration countless times. Katy has said that when she was up and coming, trying to get signed, labels would tell her that they wanted her to be a "Kelly Clarkson".
Do you have a link to this?? I would love to see it.
I'll repeat it for you, but more clearly: Since U Been Gone has had more tangible impact on the pop music world than anything Avril has released.
This does not mean Avril hasn't had a successful career. Kelly's SUBG simply revolutionized pop music. Avril has yet to do that to the same degree (and that's likely to not change).
