but they need a continent... every place on earth belongs to a continent... like japan is an island part of asia
Japan is on the same tectonic plate as the rest of Asia, as the UK is on the same plate as the rest of Europe hence why they are grouped in with continents as there is not that much distance apart.
Both. I kind of consider Oceania to be a general "area" as opposed to an actual continent. Kind of like how the Carribean islands are commonly considered to be "Central America" even though that isn't actually a continent.
