This. I highly doubt race played a major role in their characterization, so whoever gave the best performance should get the role
Also, how is this "whitewashing" when one of the two parts went to a BLACK PERSON?

Because ATRL members were there during the casting calls and got to witness the horrible racism that lead to this movie.

Stop playing dumb. Implicit white preference is a reality. In fact, people have explicitly stated that they prefer white actors like in the case of Stonewall and 21. Are you really that naive to think that reality is less likely than the idealized hypothetical situation where white and black actors "just performed better" like people are pretending? If the reality offends you so much, steer clear of news like this and stick to your fantasy world where things are all fine.
And I don't know why one of you is pointing out that one of them is a black actor as if it debunks the whitewashing that exists. That's actually another symptom of white washing. According to popular perception, the world is in two categories----white and non-white. Blacks are usually used for the non-white representative whether it's realistic or not. A few years back a movie about a Texan Indian-American woman was supposed to be made and Halle Berry was the actress they wanted to cast. Was it because she was the best actress for the role? I'm open to hear your explanations.
Finally, if you're so dumbfounded by the outrage behind whitewashing in the media, here's the reason. It's a fact that the vast majority of Americans (and people around the world) have zero personal connections with people of a different background than them so it's media stereotypes and portrayals that are their main source of "interaction" and information about them. How exactly can media portrayals be accurate and stereotypes be fought when Asian actors can't even play roles that were originally designed for their background (like here) and only get roles to push a stereotype (like The Big Bang Theory)?

You're not even an American so I don't know why you're always running into this threads whining and overly concerned about Hollywood and American standards. If that's the advice you're giving to actual Americans, why don't you go to stick to watching Dutch movies?
By the way, there are actual quite a few white actors in Asian films from India, Hong Kong, Thailand, etc. so nice try.
