I had no idea Taylor had successful eras before I looked into it around the time of the Red era because Speak Now especially and Fearless to a lesser extent didn't even make a ripple in the UK
The radios in my area here in Germany didn't play TD's singles after "Firework" for some reason so I was unaware of Katy's slayage during that era.
For example PRISM felt MUCH bigger here. Radios even played album tracks and even "Unconditionally" felt as big and popular as "Teengae Dream" (the song).
"In The Lonely Hour" also didn't felt big. I only hear "Stay With Me" here, so I was surprised when I found out that it sold +5M copies.
"Christmas" by Michael Bublé too, it sold +10M copies but I didn't know about its existence for years.
Hmmm over in Australia I heard dark horse on the radio a million times a day for the longest period of time that I can remember for a song ever. It just refused to die, but I wasn't complaining it's by far my favourite Katy song. However I'd agree with teenage dream.
Pink is another example of this but I'm sure she feels less big in other places. I swear there is this one station that only plays So What and other Pink classics. God forbid when she tours, which goes on forever in Australia. So if anything TTAL felt bigger than it probably was.
It has sold 8M albums WW and it's the biggest era of 2014/2015 so far and arguably Taylor's biggest era, but if you want to keep telling yourself that then you're entitled to do so.
