Your statement sounds like you only listen to her songs catered to ATRL members.

One song is about the death of her cousin, one song is about abortion. You pick out 2 songs out of her entire discography that only truly brush the surface of these deeper subjects and try and use that as a means to say shes nothing like Katy or Britney? Katy attempts to be thoughtful as well and yet still produces mindnumbingly generic tunes that contain little to no emotion. I think Nicki attempted to get harder on The Pink Print and while I think its better than the abominable cheese on both Pink Friday and Roman Reloaded, thats not saying much. My opinion of Nicki Minaj is not ignorant just because you respect her and I don't. I have no respect for her for reasons that I think are valid. If you bypass certain truths and like her anyway, thats you. But dont accuse me of not being knowledgeable of her work just because I dont like her. I know she makes more than Starships and I still think shes full of it. Not sorry.

To me shes raps katy perry, she makes a bunch of ******** that sells and people buy it. She slaps on an ingenuine feminist label and coerces people into validating her by exploiting race/gender issues. Shes a hollow shell that people put on a pedestal because shes set herself up to be used as a prop for race wars and that way she gets away with being hypocritical and mediocre. I cant say she hasnt released a few songs that are catchy and/or good. But the overwhelming majority of her content is pure artificial nonsense and im not into this whole "praise nicki just because" thing that a lot of people seem to follow. For the fact that shes all front and nothing more, I think shes among the most gimmicky pop stars in a negative way.

Her last album, The Pinkprint only has 2-3 disposable songs (Anaconda, BoL, Big Daddy) so I don't know why you're calling her mediocre when artists like Taylor rinse & repeat the same shtick of long lost ex lovers yet they never get dragged for it.

I don't like Taylor either and quite honestly even though shes arguably the biggest pop star on the scene at the moment, she gets dragged quite a bit for her work as well. Nicki, on the other hand, is constantly put on a pedestal for her mediocrity and im not about to allow you to try and pull some race card and compare her to a white artist as if that has anything to do with anything. Besides, I may not like Taylor but I think shes at least more genuine than Nicki. Nicki is literally one of the most contradictory, hypocritical artists and no one calls her on it. Except for Azealia Banks, I have a lot of respect for what Azealia had to say on the Miley/Nicki situation. I think shes the only one with the balls and credibility to properly call Nicki out on her ********. But of course, no one will pay attention and all the drones will side with nicki just because.

Dear Old Nicki
Still I Rise

All songs with substance, that's more than most relevant pop girls today. Your hatred is - frankly - quite blinded

You're stan card makes you - frankly - quite blinded to her utter mediocrity.
More than half of the songs you listed only further my point that shes raps Katy Perry. Generically inauthentic attempts at coming off "meaningful" or "sentimental".

Shooting whipped cream from your **** is not a gimmick man? Come on. Shes cutesy nothingness, there is nothing to her. Read my edit, I added a disclaimer at the top. Gaga is gimmicky to an extent but at least she brings more to the table.

Using stage props. It's part of the performance? Do you want to see someone singing with normal clothes on? Go to a Kacey Musgraves or Tori Kelly concert I mean

Yeah but were talking gimmicks and thats gimmicky. And on top of that she brings nothing else to the table. Thus why I mentioned her in my post. Im not saying all gimmicks are bad, but imo Katy doesnt actually bring anything to the table beyond some superficial goofiness and I dont find her "gimmicks" to be cool or appealing. She does nothing for me.

Except that this thread is not about innovation (bringing something new to the table) or your perception of authenticity. Katy does not use gimmicks to the same extent of other pop stars.

Why are people in here acting like using gimmicks demeans and degrades you? Some of the greatest entertainers in showbiz have used them. It only becomes insulting when you rely on them. Like, Gaga has been Hella gimmicky at times but she's proven that she can strip it all back and wow an audience with just her, her voice and her piano. Unfortunately, not everyone has that.

Well that's your opinion. Stop trying to act like your opinion is fact. "Mediocrity", thats why shes the biggest female rapper of all time, she's highly respected in hip hop (unlike other female rappers), everyone wants her on their songs, and critics love her... okay. I just doubt you've even listened to any of those meaningful songs listed. There's more to her music than just those mainstream singles.

Im not saying that this thread is about innovation. This thread is about artists that use gimmicks and Katy Perry most certainly uses gimmicks as much if not moreso than other pop stars. She used remixes to bump her songs up the charts, shes the face for numerous cheap endorsements, her stage props and costuming is by and far more gimmicky than a majority of her peers, the list goes on and on. Shes one giant costume and I only added on her lack of authenticity as a means of explanation as to why I consider her gimmicky negatively as opposed to gimmicky neutrally.

Pretty much everything is a gimmick.

If you're not Adele who literally sings behind a mic and that's it, then you probably use gimmicks.
Costumes are gimmicks, stage designs are gimmicks, etc.

First of all, its common sense that my opinion is my opinion. That shouldn't have to be stated unless you're dense.
-Ive listened to all the songs listed.
-Shes unfortunately the biggest female rapper of all time moreso propelled by her willingness to sell cheap crap as opposed to quality.
-shes hardly a critical darling
- imo there is not much more to her music than the mainstream singles.

Now you're dragging her for doing endorsements, which most artists do She's a pop singer fully immersed in Hollywood, not an indie band from Oregon who performs at the local farmers market.
