Yep. There's absolutely no way to pull a Mariah (holding off songs to build consumer hype) with streaming these days.
Maybe if a major selling act dropped a song during Holiday week, but even then the influx of older songs would outshine any new releases, unless it immediately took. Plus radio isn't paying attention to brand new tracks as they're playing the year's hits and other recurrents.
ADELE is the only one I see doing it or coming close. She's likely to hold off from streaming services, and if the song is immediate, have folks racing to purchase. Especially if the release strategy is around Grammy time, 2017.
