MusicIsGoodForYou's Best of 2009 Thread! Singles 13-8!!
Good evening everyone! Hope you are all having a great last weekend of the decade! Woah, that sounds really scary to say lol. Anyways, tonight, I'll crack the top 10 songs!! Here's #'s 13-8 on my Top 30 Singles of 2009!!
Top 30 Singles of 2009:
Recap:
30. John Mayer - Who Says
29. Ryan Star - Right Now
28. Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Suck Without You
27. David Cook - Come Back to Me
26. Flo Rida - Be On You (feat. Ne-Yo)
25. The All-American Rejects - Gives You Hell
24. Kanye West - Heartless
23. Eminem - Beautiful
22. Drake - Successful (feat. Trey Songz & Lil Wayne)
21. Green Day - 21 Guns
20. Mariah Carey - Obsessed/Obsessed (Remix) [feat. Gucci Mane]
19. Boys Like Girls - Love Drunk
18. The Fray - You Found Me
17. Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling
16. Jay-Z - Run This Town (feat. Rihanna & Kanye West)
15. Linkin Park - New Divide
14. Drake - Forever (feat. Kanye West, Lil Wayne, & Eminem)
13. Shinedown - Second Chance
As far as I'm concerned, Shinedown was the breakthrough hard rock band of 2009. With Second Chance, they were able to conquer Pop and Adult Pop radio in addition to Mainstream Rcok stations! I also liked Sound of Madness and If You Only Knew, and hope that this wonderful band has another big hit someday!
12. T.I. - Dead and Gone (feat. Justin Timberlake)
Beacuse he was in jail for so long, T.I. didn't release much music this year. However, a few months before he went to jail, T.I. released Dead and Gone as a single. The song being about the death of one of T.I.'s dear friends doesn't stop T.I. from rapping with killer rhymes and flow. And JT provides great vocals for the track too! Now that T.I.'s one step further to freedom, I can't wait to hear some new music from him in 2010!
11. Kelly Clarkson - Already Gone
I have always been a fan of Kelly Clarkson, especially for her ballads, such as A Moment Like This and Breakaway. And despite the big resemblance to Halo, Already Gone isn't any different! The songs lyrical content and haunting melodies are very touching, showing the pain that sweethearts ending a relationship might feel. In addition to Cry, this is definitely one of my favorites off All I Ever Wanted!
10. Cobra Starship - Good Girls Go Bad (feat. Leighton Meester)
I'm sure many of you are disappointed by this pick, but I had to honor it. I mean, Good Girls Go Bad was on my playlist from when it was first released in like May, which was before it became popular, to when it died down in like October! That's a pretty long time for me! Anyways, its a fun pop song featuring a very unlikely collaboration. And the fact that this song made Cobra Starship a hot band on Pop radio? Even more unlikely!
9. Nickelback - If Today Was Your Last Day
Nickelback has always been very relevant on my best of charts, including being #1 on my songs chart in 2006 with Savin' Me. And this year is certainly no exception. Even though Dark Horse was released last year, Nickelback reigned supreme on the Adult Pop chart with this and Never Gonna Be Alone, and with the Grammy-nominated Burn It To The Ground on the mainstream rock charts. Anyways, If Today Was Your Last Day has a great message, which is to just live life while it lasts, and Nickelback shows it with great vocals and kinda dark melodies. I'm looking forward to what Nickelback is going to do in 2010!
8. Keri Hilson - Knock You Down (feat. Kanye West & Ne-Yo)
What a great R&B jam! Knock You Down has a great verse from Ne-Yo, as well as a nice rap from Kanye. Even though I didn't particularly like Keri's album, this song is a true stand-out. And not just for the guest appearances! Keri provides some clever wordplay and nice vocals too!
Well that does it for tonight. I can't believe that this countdown is almost over already. I mean, I just started it 2 days ago! Anyways, see you all tomorrow night!

Top 30 Singles of 2009:

10. Cobra Starship - Good Girls Go Bad (feat. Leighton Meester)
9. Nickelback - If Today Was Your Last Day
8. Keri Hilson - Knock You Down (feat. Kanye West & Ne-Yo)
7. Daughtry - No Surprise
I bet that its no surprise that Daughtry is so high up here, as they are very similar to Nickelback. When I first heard No Surpise, I said that it would possibly be my favorite song of 2009, and man was I close! The witty lyrics crafted by Chris Daughtry and Nickelback's Chad Kroger, the overwhelming vocals provided by Chris, and the vibrant guitar of No Surprise make it a Pop/Rock masterpiece in my eyes, or should I say in my ears lol! One of the most powerful parts of the song (and of all of 2009 in music IMO) is in the album version of No Surprise, when Chris bursts out: "The kiss goodnight, it comes with me
Both wrong and right, our memories
The whispering before we sleep,
just one more thing that you can't keep"
This single just proves how awesome Daughtry is!
6. Drake - Best I Ever Had
Over 2009, starting off with Best I Ever Had, Drake has gone from an unknown rapper to a household name. Despite this song being a rap song, it has so much pop appeal! Best I Ever Had has a great hook lyrically and musically and a nice beat, produced by Boi-1da. Then again, Drake brings the song back to Rap with clever rhymes and a distinct swagger, proving that he is one of the best rappers out there right now. Could you think up **** like this?: "Sex, love, pain, baby, I be on that tank ****
Buzz so big, I could probably sell a blank disk
When my album drop, bitches will buy it for the picture
And ni66as will buy it too and claim they got it for they sister"
I didn't think so!
5. Kings of Leon - Use Somebody
Before 2009 began, I had never heard a song by Kings of Leon. However, over the year, the band has become a Pop phenomenon, thanks to this single. Use Somebody is highlighted by an uplifting chorus, shimmering guitar (not-to-mention a kick-ass solo!), and beautiful vocals from Caleb Followill. All of that and the classic rock feel of Use Somebody make it a surefire stadium anthem. I also really like Sex On Fire and Notion, and I hope there will be more great music to come from Kings of Leon in 2010!
4. The Fray - Never Say Never
Ever since The Fray released Over My Head (Cable Car), I have liked every single single that they have released, and Never Say Never is certainly no exception. In fact, it spent about four months on my playlist! Anyways, I love Never Say Never so much because of the vibrant piano and guitar throughout the song, and because of Issac Slade's excruciating emotional vocals, with nice falsettos. Overall, the song has an awesomely somber feel. When first listening to The Fray's self-titled album, I didn't really notice Never Say Never over the other tracks, but after listening to it so much as a single, I can decipher the true emotion shown in Never Say Never, and its so damn awesome.
Even though I feel pretty tired right now, I'm so excited for tomorrow, when I will reveal my Top 3 singles of 2009! See you all then!
