Nnnnn at "'Applause' was made for radio."
'Applause'
Quote:
I've overheard your theory "nostalgia's for geeks"
I guess sir, if you say so, some of us just like to read
One second I'm a Koons, then suddenly the Koons is me
Pop culture was in art, now art's in pop culture in me
I live for the applause, applause, applause
I live for the applause-plause
Live for the applause-plause
Live for the way that you cheer and scream for me
The applause, applause, applause

'Applause' is a song about Gaga's love for performing.
'45S'
Quote:
I think I've had enough
I might get a little drunk
I say what's on my mind
I might do a little time
'Cause all of my kindness
Is taken for weakness
Now I'm FourFiveSeconds from wildin'
And we got three more days 'til Friday
I'm just tryna make it back home by Monday mornin'
I swear I wish somebody would tell me
Ooh, that's all I want

'45S' is literally a song about drinking and wanting to party.
'45S' was Rihanna's "big comeback" after years of not releasing.
'45S' features three huge names in music.
'45S' received a huge promo slot, the Grammys.
'45S' did better on Spotify.
All the excuses the Navy are bringing up and 'Applause' still sold more in the US and worldwide.

The question asks why Applause stayed in the top ten longer, and a song performed in more than once is going to receive more exposure than a song performed just once
Moreover Applause was performed on the VMAs, GMA, SNL, the Muppets, as of one Grammy performance is more than these

It's not Gaga's fault there was demand for her to promote her song. If people liked '45S' and wanted to hear it, Rihanna would have been approached to perform/promote it more.
