This shouldn't be a surprise anymore though.

Beyonce has a pretty good reputation in this industry except when it comes to song writing credits.

I'll play both sides here for a moment. Maybe she co-wrote the song and Makeba just recorded the demo so in case it leaked before she got a chance to do a final version (Mariah is well known for doing it in the past 10/15 years since that whole fiasco with Tommy Mottola stealing Loverboy and If We and having knock-offs made for J. Lo).

Or maybe she considers her couple of words spoken at the beginning as her writing contribution. By that standard though, someone like Aretha Franklin should have writing credits on many many songs, including 'Respect' since she vocally arranged it with her sisters and they also came up with adding in spelling of the song title and the "sock it to me" lines, which Otis did not have in his when he wrote and recorded it, but back then I guess that wasn't considered "writing".

The harmonies are totally different in the final version. There's different ad-libs. As I'm listening to the Demo, I'm imagining Beyoncé's ad-libs which aren't there. There's different production. The final sounds MUCH more polished, starts out totally different and has a different intro.

That's how she got the writing credit. That's how she also got the co-production credit. You guys do the absolute most. It's not stealing credits. You guys remain doing the most. This is the same situation that happened with Ne-Yo on Irreplaceable. She's a co-producer and co-writer despite not writing a single word b/c she did the vocal arrangements for the record.. Ne-Yo spilled the tea on that situation.

It's not stealing if the songwriters sold her writing credits and are listed as writers on the song. Please find another word to describe it.
