Obviously that only works since the peak of digital music which was somewhere between 09 and 11. It's been on a steady decline since then, but comparing to an album pre-09 like this doesnt work. Of course there are other circumstances involved, but this is just an industry decline in general.

I thought I'd post it just in case you didn't
But yes I agree. You can't really compare sales for different albums that were released years apart throughout the past 10 years. You have to look at them in context and hold them to a different standard based on what the climate is/was like.
Her first week sales:
2003 - Thankful: 297,000 #1
2004 - Breakaway: 250,000 #3
2007 - My December: 291,000 #2
2009 - All I Ever Wanted: 255,000 #1
2011 - Stronger: 163,000 #2
2015 - Piece By Piece: 97,000 #1
And Wrapped In Red with 73,000 at #3.
If you take into account the year they were released and they debut position, it looks like her debut sales have been pretty consistent

Thankful and All I Ever Wanted were the only ones that were lead with big hit first singles....Breakaway and Stronger were lead with hit first singles but they were much slower building and weren't as big before the album dropped (mainly MKIA....Breakaway was a bigger hit). Never Again went Top 10 but didn't last long, and Heartbeat Song is really really slow moving.
