Hmm no. Its general term for black colour, not only to describe black skinned people. La Camisa Negra is such a racist song, lol.
Its not the same thing as n-word, its the same thing as word "black" in Spanish. Its not racist at all in spanish speaking countries, even though I wouldnt use it in black community

Depends on the country.
Many Latin American countries Negro is used as a nick name/term of endearment for blacks.
IN the US that wouldn't fly and the word although not seen as offensive as N***a/er is still not that well liked because blacks were called Negro before they stopped using that and started using African American instead.

Right, if you go on any popular video with a black person the comment section will be filled with racial slurs.
Some people on here are so clueless.

OP, depends on the situation. Like, if you were referring to slavery - okay.
If you're using it to discriminate or offend somebody - not okay.

It isn't...It's the same in The Netherlands... Being refered to as "zwarte" (translates to black) is much worse than being refered to as "negers" (either one of those n-words)

We just say black.
Although I don't find anything offensive about 'negro'. It's just an outdated term that's not used that much anymore.
When we learned about Philippine History though, Negrito is the term used for early inhabitants of the Philippines so no it's not really offensive.

Well basically I said "A negro finally sent me that song from Keyshia Cole" Then I got told that I am not supposed to use that word, even though I found on internet that it's non-derogatory and was even "included on the 2010 United States Census, alongside "Black" and "African-American", because some older black Americans still self-identify with the term"

Do you see gays and jews still blame Germany for what Hitler did in WWII? Of course not, Hitler is long gone and the people living now had nothing to do with the atrocities that took place
|
I don't understand why you brought this up... But after slavery that was it, right? Just a big melting pot and everything was all good, no events that happened after that that affects America today?
As a matter of fact this whole thread is stupid. No one is fuming over the usage of the word negro so I don't even understand the purpose of this thread. It's 2014 luv... I haven't heard anyone use it outside of spanish or a history book.

Yes, you can't claim racism because white people took over the ****ing world and awfully ran society. White people discriminated other races/ethics such as Jews, blacks, Hispanics - you name it. Slavery, Holocaust. Yes, boo hoo to white people.
