My brother lived in SA for a year and he said covering the hair was obligatory.
Nevertheless, even if the Abaya was the only obligatory part, it's still disgusting how a government forces women to wear something standard and not make it optional for each individual to decide, and no your subjective opinion about the Abaya being stylish won't change a thing.
+ It's even more disgusting how the same government sentences gay people and throws them in prison. (I bet most of Saudi Arabians on this forum are homosexual so I don't know how you're going to defend this.)
