I can't at you trying to bring the sales and certifications when we all know the singles sales in 2011were so much bigger than those in 2007. For umbrella to have done as great as it did for it's time it was a huge hit.
I never said it wasn't but you can't measure "impact", you can only measure sales.

Umbrella was a big hit during its time, but that's it- a big pop hit. Firework has essentially replaced Beautiful and Hero as the new anthem of this millennium. Receipts show clearly how this is fact.
I think Firework had the benefit of the 2011 Digital Sales explosion ( see Party Rock Anthem, Somebody that i Used to Know, and Moves like Jagger for examples of that). I think Umbrella would sold the same or more if it had that same benefit. The fact that Umbrella will play at least once a week on the radio, while Firework.....hasnt really played since 2011, shows enough.
Firework gets tons of recurrent airplay on adult formats, which is one of the reasons why it's been selling well after its peak.
Firework was a hit but Umbrella was a movement. The song over shadowed Rihanna. I remember how big of a deal everyone kept making because the beat incorporated some apple loop. I remember being confused as to why this song was such a big deal. the song was covered by everyone. It gave birth to the "Rihanna curse". It was controversial because that's when all the illuminati rumors began. it won a grammy, went number one and snatched a video music award. Do I really need to go on?

Firework got nominated for a Grammy, had a bigger impact on the charts (more year-end lists) and also snatched VOTY at the VMAs.
