This is so true. Talking about anything related to LGBTQ people used to be kind of taboo
I was super ignorant about gay people (I barely knew that they existed and I thought they were inappropriate/gross for some reason) until JKR announced that Dumbledore was gay, and that was in 2007 I think. Things changed a lot in how the world views gay people and it all happened very quickly. The intersection of more states pushing for Gay Marriage laws, Gay Marriage laws changing around the world, the It Gets Better campaign, Glee, Gaga/BTW, and much more were super impactful. They might've been problematic, but they really did raise awareness and change people's perception of LGBTQ people
