As someone already said, every pop girl releases generic music. The name "pop girl" itself shows what the singer wants. Be popular. She provides fun, catchy pop music, and unapologetically so. She's not edgy like she was in her OOTB days. There's nothing wrong with that, but you can't not expect some when she's essentially giving what One Direction or Bieber give musically.

Mind you I bought Teenage Dream and went to the tour. I really enjoy Katy, but I just want something progressive and not just the same songs. I was waiting for her Jagged Little Pill album but I don't see her ever giving it unfortunately. I personally feel she's more caught up in her success than her artistic integrity in my opinion.

When you're not being innovative or even growing as an artists it makes people question your artistry. Hence why Katy has yet to see a Grammy Award. It's also annoying because Katy is really talented and she's just doing enough to get by, she's not doing anything to be ahead.
