It's just as ignorant of a thing to say as people who say her audience is all old people, despite the fact she has the record for the best selling digital album of all time and RITD is the best selling digital single of all time by a solo artist (only beaten by IGAF by a few hundred thousand copies).

21 was predicated on being the antithesis of that, and was a stripped back reaction against how contrived and theatrical pop music had become.

The way the industry was (and still pretty much is) only helped her appeal but it's not the sole reason for her success. The music and her voice was. She had already built her name up prior to that, hence why 21 managed to sell 355k it's first week.

30 million people don't go out and buy your album, especially in the current sales climate, as a reaction to how pop music is. Most people don't care and aren't that invested in it.

If you don't live in the hood how do you know they are listening to her there? And to be clear, I said black people in white neighborhoods, meaning they are around white people more and listen to similar things as them

I don't know anyone who even knows who a Adele is let alone her music and I don't even live in the hood I just live in a black suburb

And that's not me saying she isn't successful, that's me saying, everyone in the world knows Micheal Jackson and his music, everyone isn't familiar with Adele therefore it is impossible for her album to be compared to Micheal's

People like you lose sight of the actual discussion getting all in yo feelings, no one said she wasn't successful, being known in the hood doesn't make u successful lol

And when people compare 21 to Thriller, it's not that they're saying they're the same. Both are obviously different and impacted the industry in much different ways. It's just that both albums defined certain eras of pop and for anyone to say that 21 is not the album to define this current era is just delusional.

No album was as talked about, outside of internet forums, as much as 21 was since probably Thriller. There were a lot big albums in between but Adele's literally became a phenomenon and most of the industry still hasn't been able to keep up since it's release.

The fact we're all still sitting here discussing 21 and constantly bringing up things like "so and so's 21 is coming" all the time shows it's impact.
