I think that everyone who has an alter ego and publicly points it out, is just trying to make himself / herself more interesting and get promo. If I had two personalities, I would try to hide them so my relatives wouldn't send me to an asylum...

However, Beyoncé seems that she left her alter egos behind two eras away (I might be wrong, I'm not that familiar with her music, music, whatever that includes alter egos) so I guess she's grown up and she decided to focus on her music, not on some cimcumstances. And that's only good.

Anyone who has ever acted or performed well, knows that an alter ego is really just a way to compartmentalize yourself and be in the zone for a performance. It can really help nerves and boost a performance on the stage...like if the op's fave had had an alter ego, or y'know acted... at a sound of music thing this year...maybe things would have been...bearable.
