They were at the same time, only Hikki had amazing success before her, and later Ayumi was the BIG thing
So get your facts right
|
LMAO. Ready to get owned?
01) Half those facts up there are the same thing reworded: "Best Selling Female Artist" is up there the same at least three times
02) The two records regarding her simultaneous #01 albums are misleading, as instead of releasing one cummulative compilation album, they decided going with two GH albums split into two (hardly an achievement).
03) Ayumi Hamasaki is really the only female artist that has had over 40 singles, so you can't even compare (she always releases at least 3 singles and 51879258912795 promotional videos a year)
So if you do want to compare, you would take the best 3 from each and see (taken from the Music & More Forums):
Top 3 Grossing Utada Albums/Singles:
01."First Love" - 7,650,251 [10,056,000 WW] -BEST SELLING ALBUM IN JAPAN EVER-
02."Distance" - 4,469,135
03."Deep River" - 3,604,588
01."Automatic/Time Will Tell" - 2,062,850
02."Addicted To You" - 1,784,050
03."Wait & See" ~Risk~ - 1,662,060
Ayumi:
01."A BEST" (compilation album mind you) - 4,295,353
02."Duty" - 2,904,420
03."Loveppears" - 2,562,130
01."A" - 1,670,000
02."Seasons" - 1,367,400
03."M" - 1,319,070
*Just for future reference, Ayu's compilation "A BEST" took on Utada's studio album "Distance" in the spring of 2001 for #01, with "Distance" finishing the week @ #01 and "A BEST" grabbing #02. ;p
As you can see, any records she holds for selling the most records all has to do with the fact that she releases twice as much as any other artist (she currently has double the amount of singles as Utada for example).
Ok, so on to two other posts that I have to address:
@ TRL Girl - I believe the United World Charts don't count digital downloads as of yet, which would be why there are no Japanese artists in the Top 100
@ Angelo - LMAO. Utada debuted in December of 1998, while Avril made her debut in April of 2002...hardly a decade.
So back to the above debacle, I really believe that both artists are legendary in Japan, but don't try and post misconcieving facts and not expect me to respond.
