Putting out three lackluster albums subsequently didn't help either.

Not you saying she's never sold well outside the states and basing that claim on DATED certifications, oh God. Soundscan proves that she is criminally undercertfied in the USA, and since she isn't updating her certifications stateside, common sense would show she is undercertified EVERYWHERE!
And no, do not bother coming back, we don't want your delusion in this thread
Back on topic, i look forward to seeing the rest Lately 1814

Not my fault you thought wrong. But I'll address the other points:
You don't seem to understand how Wikipedia works. Every sentence does not have a citing there is no source for the estimations on Wikipedia. Check yourself.
Oh, another thing you don't seem to be familiar with. Certifications randomly update. For example, Janet Jackson's UK certifications were updated about two to three months ago out the blue. Certifications are updated if a record achieves a new height. And I don't think I need to connect the puzzle pieces any further when saying that
And yea, no, that's not how it's going to work. If you don't want crap then you don't start crap, which you did with your initial post. You aren't going to tell me not to reply back when you're foaming at the mouth snapping at me for no reason don't even try that with me.
-
Anyway, for UK sales, this is a good thread to look at : http://atrl.net/forums/showthread.php?t=215000
For Janet's Australia certifications, you'll have to look through the Australian Chart Book. They update overtime in the more recent issues, so if you want a look, here's a good place to start But you have to pay for them, so browsing their forums on australian-charts for issues would best suit you. Or if you still want to buy it..(I doubt it, but) http://www.austchartbook.com.au/

I just looked at Janet's discography on wiki and i see sources from Billboard to press labels, also there are plenty of sources in the OP, or did you just miss that altogether? And wiki also has moderators monitoring artists discography pages, so if a source is considered bad and unreliable it will be removed (example, MEDIATRAFFIC), i won't deny that some articles on wiki are handled poorly, but not discographies of major artists.

Certifications update randomly? Then why isn't Control certified 7x platinum in the states? Why isn't Janet certified 8x platinum? and Why isn't Rhythm Nation certified 9x platinum? Certifications update when record company's pay for it, and the only album updated in the UK was her Number ones album which was released under a completely different label then her back catalog so obviously that label is doing it's job.

Yeah don't talk to me about Australia because i have actually had experience myself on this issue, and it's exactly as i told you above. I emailed ARIA wondering myself why Janet hasn't had her certifications updated here and they basically said 'That's up to her record company to notify us" if you want i can even screenshot this email and send it to you.
And the Australian chart book is only good if you want to see peak positions and certifications before 1997 when the Aria finally opened up their database, if Janet's certifications were to update in Australia it would appear there.

I love Janet so much. It's amazing to see how much success she attained at the pinnacle of her career. She has one of the best discographies in pop music. Too bad most of her legacy was erased with that one... performance.

Just a quick point, the BPI updated everyone's certifications in the UK on their website a few months ago, and as far as I know it had nothing to do with the record companies, as I doubt any of them were willing to pay for all of the certifications that were released.
I'm hoping people might petition the RIAA to do the same in the near future so we can have updated certifications for a lot of the older acts like Janet (seeing as certifications earned in the digital age seem to be updated automatically).
That discussion is for another thread though.

Well they have done a horrible job with Janet as I just checked and 'Got till it's gone' has been certified silver when it was already silver anyway, certified in 1998

Did you even READ the article?
Quote:
"Normally BPI waits for official notification from its label members of a title’s sales performance based on shipment deliveries, but from Friday 19th July the awards will automatically recognise the popularity of artist releases as soon as they go past relevant sales thresholds in line with Official Charts Company data."
"BPI members will, however, retain the option of notifying the trade body’s Rob Crutchley of their new release shipment deliveries, thus ensuring the scheme remains a flexible one that enables the success of titles to be recognised at the earliest possible opportunity if required."
"The ‘auto-update’ will be based on sales as registered by the Official Charts Company (from 1994 onwards, when their records begin) and only applies to titles that have (a) not been previously certified or (b) are eligible for a certification upgrade based purely on sales from 1994 onwards. A retrospective ‘drop’ of missing titles has been conducted and a weekly sweep will occur going forward to maintain the integrity of the scheme."
|
http://www.bpi.co.uk/home/bpi-sales-...ification.aspx
This means labels can elect to update the BPI through THEIR monitoring of shipments, not actual hard sales, which is what the BPI is using (seems like a Soundscan type thing). It also means The last line indicates the BPI will be back-tracking sales prior to 1994, but their "scheme" will not be accurate as they relied on labels to submit requests for certifications. Also, Janet's albums prior to 1994 (JJ, DS, Control, RN1814, janet.), for example, may or may not be included as section (a) of stipulation three states the "auto-update" only applies to titles that have not been previously certified. Janet's albums are certified. And section (b) states the "auto-update" is based on "purely sales" not "shipments", which is how certifications prior to this new system were achieved.
Once again, this is why I have no sympathy.

I feel like the only reason she is so underrated is because she's been out of the spotlight for so long. She needs dat one final comeback era.
