HOT ZV | 2013: #65-61
Such a delightfully fun pop-rock track. It's actually really, really short which helped with its replay value some. It had a fair peak and some good time on my chart, leading to its spot here. But really I just love everything about this, the lyrics are just so cute especially during the chorus. Definitely a good fun song with pumping production and good vocals.
A song with an absolutely great chart run that got mercilessly slashed in half between 2012 and 2013. This track placed at #48 on my 2012 year-end chart. But yeah, I totally love Taylor Swift who is amazing, and I totally love this song which is amazing. It's completely throw away pop filler, but it's the exact type of throw away pop filler that I want. So catchy, so fun, so carefree, so irresistible. The bridge is just everything; and "Who's Taylor Swift anyway, ew." is so good. Everything about this song is good.
And now we immediately transition to a completely different type of Taylor Swift track that ended up in pretty much the same exact situation. This song had a terrific run, almost as strong as the prior song's run, but alas that 2012/2013 cut-off is brutal. This track placed at #65 on my 2012 year-end chart. But really, Taylor's lyrics here are simply everything. Yes, yes her vocals are beautiful and alongside the production it works so well. But really, the lyrics are everything. They come across as so personal and sincere such that only she could have written them as they were her experiences. And yet at the same time they are so close to hitting home because of how magically universal she has been able to channel her emotions into song.
Another really good track from Neon Trees' album. This song had a good peak and logged some good weeks on my chart. The song starts off slow, and the verses begin the build-up. But the chorus is really explosive and great. I like the lyrical content of this song, and the production is great with good vocals as always.
The absolute best mash-up from 2012, this is DJ Drybone's mash-up of the biggest songs from that year. And he really took the time to find a nice underlying theme behind everything and create one original song. There are so many wonder parts during this song. He does a great job blending instrumentals together as well as finding the perfect vocal mash-ups to go over them. Definitely a song in its own right, and it's a damn good one. The bridge slays everything.
