A summer entry. Birds is from Anouk's latest album, Sad Singalong Songs. The whole album including this song was recorded with a full orchestra. Anouk's glorious voice is thanks to her near-perfected technique.
Another summer song, this wouldn't be so high if not for being premiered two weeks or so before AlunaGeorge's debut album Body Music was released. I listened to this song on repeat when it was premiered out of anticipation of the full album and now rarely listen to it.
Rubblebucket brings their regular style of indie pop to this peculiar album track. The most intriguing part of the song is the time signature, which goes from 10/8 with a swing to 6/8 to 4/8(?) with a swing back to 10/8 with a swing. The song itself sounds like candy tastes.
Talk about lateness on my part! Zero 7 pulls out their regular bag of electronic tricks but the spotlight in this song is on Sia. I could replay the part where she riffs "yeah" after singing "throw it all away" for approximately forever.
Thanks for checking my Best Of out, and be sure to stick around!
"Lost" is one of my favorite songs ever!! Happy to see an appearance from her in the countdown. I like this "Hipster edition" thing, I'll be tuning in!
