But Gangnam Style and Harlem Shake were worldwide hits as well, not just in America.
And Harlem Shake was actually a serious trap song, the only thing that made it 'dumb' was the meme.
Get a sense of humour
It's from a skit. Those guys make hilarious songs, dramatic music + nonsensical lyrics. To me it's a satire on modern pop music, dumb songs getting rave reviews and huge sales because of the beat and chord progression.
