He's talking about his early work with Rishi Rich and Stargate like "Stolen" and "Eyes on You." Jay Sean has existed long before 2009.

Among UK urban acts and other British Asian artists, I'm sure he is considered one (or just a sell out). Getting signed to a major American label like Cash Money is a big deal for them when most of them are unsigned. He was even named "Artist of the Decade" at the British Asian Music Awards last year:

Jay Sean has never done Bhangra. Also, he made music with Rishi Rich long before being signed to Virgin.

Bhangra music
is commercial Punjabi music. Jay Sean has never made Bhangra songs. He and Rishi Rich were the among the first to merge R&B/urban music with Hindi/other Indian pop music long before Timbaland, Stargate and Scott Storch had mainstream success doing the same thing. In fact, Stargate recycled that same formula given to them with Selena Gomez earlier this year. The same people complaining about Jay's music are the ones who probably love "Come & Get It."
