Concerns about self-reported data by Gaga seem unfounded. I expect in-app sales to be fulfilled (& reported) by existing digital retailers.
The app is basically an additional format for promotion and advertising. An extra way of potentially making a sale.
Exactly. It's much easier for Gaga to say "you can listen to my single/album RIGHT NOW through the app. go download it on your smartphone!" than the traditional "buy my album/song on itunes". Marketing queen.

As i said, there's misinfo circulating about @ladygaga album #artpop, what @billboard will count & why. Let's nip it in bud. cc @PerezHilton

As we understand, Gaga fans get #artpop app for free & can buy the album in-app. Albums purchased this way would count on Billboard charts.

For those who may ask: this is obviously different from Jay-Z/#MCHG/Samsung which gave app for free but had no option for fans to buy.

Hopefully, that, as they say, will be that. But I'll happily answer any additional questions as they arise.
Can someone ask about buying a single and then pre-ordering the album on the 19th, will it still count as a single sale or as an album sale?
I wonder if that's how it was for Bjork when she released her album via an app a couple years ago. I imagine Gaga's app will be in the same vein as Bjork's because Bjork and her team had a great idea.
