Clive Davis says Christina "expands the horizon of what a pop artist can do"
Making a double CD was a risk, Aguilera acknowledged. "I did kind of shoot myself in the foot, because it costs more to put out a double album, and the label isn't always so happy about that, and statistically they don't sell as well," she said. "But I think it's important to be fearless whenever you're doing something for your art."
But Clive Davis, head of RCA Records, said his label had no misgivings. "She has turned into one of today's most cutting-edge artists," he said. "She brings a whole fresh look to Top 40 and expands the horizon of what a pop artist can do. Everything from the video to the performance is coming from her, and she deserves full credit."
As Spears, a proud hillbilly and soon- to-be mother of two, attempts to clean up her image and quash speculation that her marriage is on the rocks, it's her former rival, Aguilera, who has found the road to respectability. And the once-dirty singer is convinced that it is she who will have the last laugh.
"Just like I knew I was going to be far more than that genie in a bottle, I knew I wasn't going to be that girl in the chaps forever," she said. "I'm in it for the long run."

Radio DJ Mark Ronson Plays Slow Down Baby on the Radio!!:
http://talk.livedaily.com/showthread...=539817&page=4
Scroll down there's a you-send it link.
It sounds amazing on the radio!!! Only thing is that Mark Ronson is being a typical dj and is talking over it.
Mark Ronson by the way produced some of the songs on Stripped and produced Slow Down Baby. You can hear him boasting about it on the clip.

Aint No Other Man has been increasing a lot on HOT AC this week! Its now the #11 most bulleted song on HOT AC when it didnt even make the list last week. The song is making strong gains on HOT AC so I hope it continues! Its bullet is was only
+45 3 days ago and it blew up to +95!

I usually don't care about sales overseas but ANOM debuted last week off of downloads alone at #27 in Ireland,
and this week it jumped to #4. Maybe this week when the Maxi is released, it can jump even more to #1.
Christina will also be performing ANOM on T4 (channel 4 Uk viewers)
Interesting ANOM fact:If ANOM gets to #1 in the UK (which it's likely to) then Christina will have more #1 singles than Whitney Houston who has been around for 20 years.
She will also tie Britney Spears as she also has 15 #1 singles, but Britney has released more singles than Christina
If any Chrisitina fans want to join the Christina Aguilera forum at CM feel welcome. It currently has 68532 members and Christina-A.net has another forum w/ 4,250 members. It isn't as good though.

Review from Anonymous who heard the whole album in full:
First of all, I do not have the album, and no, it did not leak online so don't bother. I heard it *somewhere* (sorry not allowed to name any names) and I'm just posting what I think of it.
Interesting bits and pieces:
- Back To Basics has a nice intro before Christina starts singing, which is basically bits sliced and put together.
- Remember that info we got that Thank You samples CHUD? Well, it only samples Lil Kim's vocals and they used her voice saying "Christina Aguilera" in Thank You. The song is VERY well put together. I thought the fans messages was gonna end up being tacky, but it's not.
- Enter The Circus doesn't feature any vocals by Christina, and Welcome is joined with the end of ETC. Welcome is at least 10 times better than the clip we had.
Song reviews:
- Nasty Naughty Boy got me a little too excited. Enough said.
- F.U.S.S. is very mellow for a diss track. I thought the song naming would be tacky, but it's not.
- Understand is like a soap opera. Once things get exciting, you go into a commercial. She builds up with stronger vocals and the song goes faster right before the chorus, then it cuts off and slows down again and the sample is used. It's very different and I really like it.
- Without You is a punch in the face to those who think she "yells" a lot. Very nice higher notes, harmonies, etc. I love this one. It sounded dull from the clip, but it's anything but that.
- Candyman had me up and dancing in 0.1 second. Sure, we have the song, but it's different when the song is SO loud blasting from a stereo. It's MUCH better than I ever thought it would be.
- Hurt must be a single. The piano in the beginning is sort of haunting. The lyrics are incredibly touchy and the vocals are right on target. The end made me tear up a little bit. I won't say much about this so I won't give it away, but it's just great.
- I Got Trouble is awesome. The end has fantastic vocals that you wouldn't expect a song like this to have. I thought it would all be mellow, but it's not.
- Makes Me Wanna Pray is amazing. You will be praising the lord in no time! It's as if it's taken out of Fighting Temptation's soundtrack.
- Oh Mother is very touching. You can tell she's singing from her heart. I think this one should/might be a single because Christina has never had a single with this subject. The vocals are just... amazing.
Lyrics that I wrote down:
Nasty Naughty Boy:
"I got you breaking into a sweat / Got you hot, bothered and wet / You nasty boy"
Hurt:
"I'm sorry for blaming you for everything I just couldn't do / And I've hurt myself by hurting you"
Welcome:
"Been jaded, hated, who'll be around when the limelight's faded? / Been shut down, pushed out, made to smile when I wanted to frown"
F.U.S.S.
(spoken) "Looks like I didn't need you / still got the album out / hah"
Best vocals (in my opinion) are on: Mercy On Me (belting never got better, TRUST me... *shivers*), Without You, Nasty Naughty Boy, and Makes Me Wanna Pray.
Anyway, the clips we had are NOTHING like the actual album. It's just fantastic and I think a lot of people who didn't like the clips will love the songs when they hear them in full.
Q&A:
what about "On Our Way" (my fav)
The intro is the cutest thing ever. Through-out the entire song, there's this piano in the background playing like one of those boxes with the ballerina inside them (dunno what they're called).
I didn't really focus on this track though, sorry.

No, nothing to do with opera-ish. It was normal and just pieces cut and put together. It sounded very nice though!
I was undecided about HTS and I didn't get a chance to hear it again. I think it was okay, but the Pepsi version would've obviously done better on radio. Still, it was nice.
Themes? Well, the entire album is 20's 30's 40's with a modern day twist (that line is contagious! :laugh. Ok, no jk. I don't know how to classify them, really. I'll answer anything else though...
She said something among the lines of "wanna lift my hands up and pray / wanna reach out and rejoyce", etc. Once again, very good vocals and she actually does new stuff with her voice when hitting hard notes. I was pleasantly surprised.
I think it's the perfect song to have as track #2, as she goes "So to God I pray that he will give me strength..." in Back To Basics.
Back in The Day is basically what you've heard in the clip, except spiced up a bit here and there. It starts with some guy (don't know who) saying "we're going back" (or something), then for a good 35-40 seconds, many old singers are named with some random voices. There's a lot of scratches and she repeats "Back in The Day" a lot.
She also names 3-4 song titles in the 2nd verse. Chain of Fools, Respect and What's Going On included.
To me, there are other songs single-worthy than this track.
if you haven't listened to the 30 second clips yet, than be thankful because they give the worst view of this album. They seemed to pic the least dramatic points of each song. Ya'll have no idea how amazing this album really is. I heard a lot of people make comments about "Back In The Day" and it is one of the most banging tracks on the CD. I also saw a lot of comments on FUSS. Believe me the song is no aggressive at all. She is simply stating that she was able to make a great album without "his" help despite what he says. If the clips made anyone her doubt this album and it's potential, do not give up hope. This album WILL be one of the biggest.
About CM being the next single:
Quote:
let me just say that nothing is ever final until it is confirmed by RCA.
Quote:
No Nas is not on Still dirrty. Sorry.
This is the hardest question. Seriously, but if i HAD to pick I would say at the moment Without You is, and Hurt is my favorite ballad.
I don't skip a single song on the album. All the songs are amazing. its so funny that all the songs people thot would be the worst are some of the best.
I have no details on the album booklet etc. Let's also get this straight, I dont have the music I just heard it. So there will be no leaking. So let's not start with that.
Welcome and Hurt are both amazing songs. Welcome however is pretty sort and would never be considered for a single. Hurt on the other hand, if it is not released as a single will be one of the biggest mistakes. As far as trouble I love it. it is so unique, and towards the end she sounds off the hook.
Can you post more lyrics from Hurt and Save Me From Myself? What was that track like overall?
SMFM is basically just her and a guitar playing just a couple of tabs. It's mainly just her vocals that are the main element in the song.
"It's not so easy loving me / it gets so complicated, all the things you gotta be / Everything's changing, but you're the truth"
Hurt is my favourite song. I hope I don't get my ass kicked for posting a lot of the lyrics, but here you go:
Would you tell me I was wrong?
Would you help understand?
Are you looking down upon me?
Are you proud of who I am?
There's nothing I wouldn't do to have just one more chance
To look into your eyes and see you looking back
Ohh I'm sorry for blaming you for everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself but hurting you
is there some OUTRO? like in keep on singing my song?
There's no outro. It ends with The Right Man. TRM is her singing over an orchestra. It's about Jordan taking the chance to marry her or something. I got a bit distracted by the vocals (very powerful belting) and didn't focus on the lyrics.
Still Dirrty has a funky vibe to it. It's basically the same beat you hear in the clip. The lyrics are about her still being dirrty even if we see her looking classy in a magazine or on TV. I didn't love this one, but it's still good. And yeah, as mentioned in another thread, no Nas on the track, and you can just feel it missing an element, that being a rapper.
is it true that welcome would never be considered as a single in the future???? That song is great so powerful, it should be a single anytime soon.
I don't know. I don't think it's single material, though. It's basically a "welcome to my show" song, a sequal to Enter The Circus.
Honestly How is the album does it beat stripped or really her best ever (so far)
Back To Basics > Stripped > Christina Aguilera.
Quickie: Mercy On Me is the high point vocal-wise on the album. Brace yourself for Aguilera's best vocal performance on a record (in my opinion).
And yes, I think it deserves Record of The Year.

Hey Pancosnic..This review of Christina's album is really impressive..i knew her album would be good but i didn't think it would be uber-spectacular..I knew she could pull it off..At this rate, she's getting the grammy for record of the year unless she gets strong competition from Nelly furtado and Janet Jackson...

Yeah, it sounds great on the radio. I want it to be Hurt though. If Hurt isn't 2nd then I want it to be 3rd.
We will know for sure by Aug. 27. That's when it's supposed to be released. MTV could be wrong.
They also said that Nas was on Still Dirrty and he apparently isn't.

NY TIMES ARTICLE ABOUT THE LISTENING PARTY:
With red lips, skintight jeans and a plunging sleeveless sweater that showed off her ample chest, Ms. Aguilera looked like a Vargas illustration come to life when she strutted into Sony Studios in Midtown one sweltering summer evening. She was there to play tracks from “Basics” for an audience of more than 20 music industry people. A wine, Champagne and hors d’oeuvres spread was set out on a buffet table. “I hope you guys got a chance to get a little liquored up,” she purred. Scented candles burned as she candidly shared the stories behind several of her songs. On the uptempo “Makes Me Wanna Pray,” she sings, “Your love has brought me to a higher place/Every day I’m amazed and it makes me want to get down and pray.”
She said that song, like “Ain’t No Other Man,” was about Mr. Bratman, who sat quietly by her side throughout the listening session. On “Nasty Naughty Boy,” a sexy striptease, she declares, “I want to give you a little taste/Of the sugar below my waist.” “You know I’ve got to throw something provocative on there,” she said. “It’s just me.”
DJ Premier was shocked to get her call, but Ms. Aguilera said she was drawn to him because of the jazzy sound he gave the rapper Gang Starr in the early 90’s. “He searches through his vinyl, finds the obscure pieces and reinvents the old,” she said. “You never know if you’re going to vibe with someone, but we immediately hit it off.” She said it helped that he maintains a much lower profile than many of today’s celebrity producers. “Isn’t it enough to just make the beats anymore?” she asked, mildly annoyed. “What are you, starved for attention?”
She likes that his sound is not ubiquitous. “I have no interest in working with the Neptunes,” she said of the omnipresent producing team. “A lot of what’s on the radio sounds the same because everyone is using the same producers. Music is suffering because nobody wants to step out on a limb and go for something different. Everyone wants to stay in their safety box,” which Ms. Aguilera said she has absolutely no interest in doing, even if it means upsetting her label.
“When we played the first single for the label,” DJ Premier recalled, “they didn’t think that’s the way she should start the project. But she was like: ‘I don’t care. This is the one.’ That’s why I love her, because she doesn’t give a damn what anyone thinks.”
Making a double CD was a risk, Ms. Aguilera later acknowledged. “I did kind of shoot myself in the foot, because it costs more to put out a double album, and the label isn’t always so happy about that, and statistically they don’t sell as well,” she said, “but I think it’s important to be fearless whenever you’re doing something for your art.”
As Ms. Spears, a proud hillbilly and soon to be mother of two, attempts to clean up her image and quash speculation that her marriage to a backup dancer turned rapper is on the rocks, it’s her former rival, Ms. Aguilera, who has found the road to respectability. And the once-dirty singer is convinced that it is she who will have the last laugh. “Just like I knew I was going to be far more than that genie in a bottle, I knew I wasn’t going to be that girl in the chaps forever,” she said. “I’m in it for the long run.”
