That may be true, musicwise but Since U Been Gone is the closest thing to a pop staple since "Baby One More Time"

!!! Thanks! In fact, everyone was shocked - SHOCKED! - that it didn't top the Pazz and Jop Poll. (Gold Digger unfairly took its' rightful spot). SUBG is the most amazing song of the decade, because it only gains in power - sort of like BOMT. It's fitting that they were both co-written/written by a pop genius.

Also, SUBG was the song to make it to 1 by both Stylus and Slant magazine, two notoriously hard-edged indie zines. SUBG was the one to be listed as a "Great Performance" by Entertainment Weekly (the only song to be found in the yearly countdown). SUBG was the song to be nominated for - and win - the VMA and the Grammy. Most importantly, it was the song to establish her as more than an American Idol - it made a respectable worldwide superstar. It is the best song she's ever done, and I don't see how anyone could argue with that?

I agree with justin about BTHE.

Critics ,Magazines & Grammys don't represent my feelings toward a song.Those who give the awards and criticize are PEOPLE who have different Opinion, so I don't have to like a song because it has 5 stars on every review or because it's the biggest song for the artist.(These could only help me to get more into the song).But I like the song that does make me feel good and I do enjoy it. BTHE has a better structure than SUBG and it's all a matter of opinion.

There's definately some very unnatural sounds in her voice in that song. And the lyrics are terribly silly and simple. I like subg way more. Though the live version is never very good.

You're missing the discrepancy between "best" and "most successful" or "signature" song. I agree, actually, that SUBG is sort of the song of the decade like BOMT was. I could even call it legendary. But is it better than BTHE? No. There's nothing to argue about because its my opinion.

Wait, hold on... the lyrics to BTHE are more silly and simple than SUBG's lyrics???

In SUBG, she repeats "yeah, yeah, since u been gone" every other line in the verses, and sings short "silly" statements like "here's the thing, we started out friends," "it was cool, but it was all pretend," and "thanks to you, I get what I want." While in BTHE she has much deeper, more powerful statements like "Everything, it felt so right... unbreakable, like nothing could go wrong," "But you won't get to see the tears I cry behind these hazel eyes," and "No, I don't cry on the outside anymore."

I dunno, I like BTHE better because I tap in to the emotions of the song. She seems to emote more in the song too, probably because she actually wrote some of it. SUBG is just something to rock out to in your car, or at a club/dance, and it doesn't feel like she connects to it much.

Actually, I think SUBG is one of the most cathartic pop songs ever. IT is really amazing how prevalent it is in our culture, and that's because it is so relatable. I think calling it a simple, silly pop song is doing a disservice to its ultimate intent.

And BTHE has always been a song I liked, but to be perfectly honest, it's always been a bit on the bland side for me. I really don't understand how anyone could LOVE it - maybe someone could explain it for me? (without saying it has great structure, because I don't believe it does.)
