When two songs are being compared and someone's like WELL this one was #1 on Hot 100 so it's obviously more superior/memorable/"iconic." (Or even noting how many #1 hits one artist has versus another). It's stupid because most #1s are forgotten about... and many of the most remembered songs/biggest hits never went #1.
