Carrie Underwood, ‘Two Black Cadillacs’ – Song Review
By: Billy Dukes | 28 minutes ago
Arista Nashville
Carrie Underwood used Twitter to announce that her new single would be ‘Two Black Cadillacs,’ the darkest song on a delightfully stormy new album called ‘Blown Away.’ The lyric pushes the normally plucky country superstar to the edge of evil. It’s as far as she can go without falling off the cliff of believability.
‘Two Black Cadillacs’ will draw comparisons to ‘Goodbye Earl’ from the Dixie Chicks or even ‘Gunpowder and Lead’ by Miranda Lambert. Underwood’s mid-tempo husband killer isn’t as empowering as those hits, however. It’s theater that stays on stage.
“Two black Cadillacs driving in a slow parade / Headlights shining bright in the middle of the day / One is for his wife / The other for the woman who loved him at night / Two black Cadillacs meeting for the first time,” she sings to begin the song. The radio single is unlikely to include the minute-long instrumental tail that takes the cut to over five minutes on the album.
A strong chorus keeps the story from wearing thin after repeated listens. Vocally, Underwood is brilliant as always, and lyrically, she, Hillary Lindsey and Josh Kear have penned a tight story. Like a good movie, however, it is susceptible to fatigue unless there are one or two great scenes to return to. The chorus is that scene.
“And the preacher said he was a good man / And his brother said he was a good friend / But the women in the two black veils didn’t bother to cry.”
The song’s best lines come late:
“It was the first and the last time they saw each other face to face / They shared a crimson smile and just walked away / And left the secret at the grave.”
Musically, the arrangement is made to fit the story. A piano trickles during the introduction before more brooding strings and guitar take over. Compared to Underwood’s other hits, this song doesn’t stand out after one digests the macabre storyline. So, maybe it’ll only sell a million singles and reach No. 2.

Declan Whitebloom has directed some of Taylors videos like Mean and We Are Never...
Roman White has directed for Carrie in the past, doing majority of the videos for Some hearts and Carnival Ride
Oooh another good one would be Yoann Lemoine, who has directed Taylors Back to December and Drakes Take Care and Katys Teenage Dream

No Declan, Never Ever was terrible.
I want the person who directed Cowboy Casanova to film this video.

Oh God no, not that director
Cowboy Casanova video is the worst Carrie video for me
Declan also did Taylors Ours, he does very good story telling which the song will have a dramatic one. Roman White did Just a Dream which was dramatic like Two Black Cadillacs should be. Lemoine would also give it that movie quality look to it and make it look dramatic

Cowboy Casanova is her best video behind Blown Away
No Declan, I hated Never Ever, Mean & Ours and found them way too basic - something that Two Black Cadillacs is far from.
Roman White would be good then, and I have no clue who Lemoine is.
Edit:Lemoine seems to be all over the place, I didn't find Back to December & Teenage Dream bad, but they were far from amazing I find.
Carrie needs to get a proper director who'll do the song justice - like top tier director.

The music video is terrible, she also did Good Girl but that's at least a major improvement from CC. From what I seen from GG and BA, she's going for a more girlie yet fashionable aspect to the videos (the BA director is actually a fashion photographer). So I think she needs to go with someone like Yoann Lemoine.
I gave examples, but he directed videos like Taylors Back to December, Drakes Take Care, and Katys Teenage Dream

How is Cowboy Casanova terrible though? The fashion, the setting it's beyond perfect and makes it feel like she's really in an old time place.
I really don't want Lemoine then, Take Care is the only video that's above average - I think Theresa, the Just a Dream guy or even maybe the person who filmed Over You by Miranda Lambert to film this video.

ROMAN WHITE, PLEASE.
All her videos from the SH/CR ****. Look at them. They ALL have a story, except for ITYS. All her MVs went downhill when Carrie stopped shooting videos with him. BRING HIM BACK, BITCH.

So chuffed. Two Black Cadillacs is one of my favourite songs of the year. Like a C&W version of Cher's Dark Lady!

The editing was horrible and certain shots looked awkward... And the dancing
You got the feel of the old time setting because of great scene workers and wardrobe people, Theresa did nothing to give that.
So you want Trey Fanjoy to possibly direct the video?

Cowboy Casanova is not that good. Mama's Song is lame. Pretty ordinary video. Blown Away is the exception.
