What's wrong with sampling and having other people do hooks? Jay-Z, for example, has done that way more often than Flo Rida has.
Also, Sugar (which sampled Eiffel 65 and featured Wynter Gordon), was a fairly big hit, and was a post-album single, so it's not true at all that all his songs released after the album flopped. I Cry looks to be a future UK #1.
