If they were following previous models, the 4S would have been called the 4GS, but because it wasn't 4G they didn't want to brand it as such. To go from 4 to 4S to 4GS still doesn't give holdovers (those with 3GS or 4's that work fine) without a substantial update to the model and internal hardware an incentive to upgrade.

Oh I understand the logic, and I don't want it to be called iPhone 4GS or any variation of that, but Apple have never been the most creative with their naming.
I want it to be called the iPhone 6. Something sexy about 6
But it all depends how much they change it. Is those pictures are correct and there are substantial cosmetic changes, it'll start a new chain of names (e.g. iPhone 6). If it's mainly the insides that have been changed (Like 4 -> 4S) then it'll be some variation of 'iPhone 4'.
