The only older artists whose music I've really delved into are Janet Jackson, Nina Simone and Prince.

As for other acts, I know a song here and there.

I think the only "old songs" I would listen to would be Cyndi Lauper (Time After Time), Phil Collins (True Colors, Against All Odds), Janet Jackson (All For You, Someone To Call Me Lover, Feel It Boy) and of course, Mariah Carey (only enjoy listening to her third album to present).

Of course I know all of Janet's music. I looooove Michael's older stuff from his earlier solo albums when he was a kid. I know Madonna's stuff. I'm not gonna sit here and name every damn body. But I know about stuff before I was born.

My favorite music comes from the 90's, Pop music was at its peak in that decade.

I know a lot about the most recognizable acts from 60's-80's.

Last year after my grandpa died I became more familiar with 50's music, Elvis Presley, Pat Boone, Perry Como, The Platters, Nat King Cole, The Everly Brothers, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Patti Page, Rosemary Clooney, etc.

I think the golden era for black music was between the 60's and 70's. The Motown sound slays lives.

Agreed, I had to stan hard to my youngest cousin (11 years old) when she didn't know who Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys was. I was shocked because how can you not know who they are? They were the biggest groups alive, while she was telling me about Miley's discography. But I guess that's how others feel when we talk about Rihanna, GaGa, Britney, and they all are unfamiliar with their music because they love their older generation too much.

Mariah, Shakira and No Doubt all came in the early 90's, so I listened to a lot of that. But I would I'm not really knowledgeable about 80's music(other than lots of R&B from the late 70's and 80). The furthest I'm usually back on a daily basis is the 90's though. I LOVE 90's R&B probably more than any genre of music.

I may not have listened to all their albums or know about all the greats, but I do know older music.

Elvis because of my grandmother, ABBA because of my other grandmother. Madonna because of my mom and sister. I've known about them all my life and had their music surrounding me all the time, Madonna probably the longest.

And then as I got older there was a little Rod Stewart, The Beatles, KISS, Queen, Cher, Tina Turner, Barbra Streisand, Celiné, Whitney, Mariah, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Lionel Richie, Diana Ross, The Jackson 5, Michael Jackson, George Michael, Prince and Janet... The list really goes on.

So yes, I know older music but I won't say I've listened to all of it or even like most of it.

edit: My favorites in that list today are ABBA, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Tina Turner, Cher, Stevie Wonder, Celine, Whitney, KISS, Queen and Elvis. I LOVE them and know most of their catalogues. I guess the music you're fed with growing up really plays a big role.
