#12 - GIL SCOTT-HERON AND JAMIE XX - WE'RE NEW HERE
Lord, if you ever thought a remix album was just made of DJs pumping up the same old songs, then change your definition. Here's the tea: Gil Scott Heron released I'm New Here, his last studio album, to generally favorable reviews. Enter Jamie Smith (from The XX) and you have We're New Here, a critically acclaimed re-interpretation of Gil's body of work. You see, Jamie didn't just add some dubstep to the songs, he created a cohesive masterpiece of his own. With a Remix Album. YASS! Deal. The mix between Smith's beats and Heron's voice make the album even richer than before. And while some DJs just lose sight of the source material, The XX's frontman leaves it's integrity intact, creating a record both innovative and classic, moody and psychodelic.
Standout tracks:
-My Cloud
-Ur Soul and Mine
-Home

#11 - FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE - CEREMONIALS
One of the most anticipated albums of the year, Flo took her previous sound, and made it more massive, more absorbing, and more beautiful. Although it gets weaker after the first five songs, Florence still manages to soar among the baroque production of the record, and comes out even better, and ready to take on more, and more.
Standout tracks:
-Breaking Down
-Shake It Out
-Leave My Body

Attention: Nicola Roberts is strangely hot sometimes.
Also attention: Gil-Scott Heron (be at peace) and Flo-Flo both made awesome albums that everyone should listen to. SO DO IT!

#15 - CHRIS BROWN, LIL WAYNE AND BUSTA RHYMES - LOOK AT ME NOW
Thank the good sis Diplo for this great song. He never fails to amaze me. Tsk, tsk, of course, Chris Brown is important too. I hate him, but I give credit when credit is due. From the unforgettable beats, to the fast verses, to the whole ****-you lyrics, Look At Me Now is probably one the best rap songs of the year. Sure, Brown can't rap at Wayne's or Rhymes' level, but the whole gangsta thing makes this tune addictive and kind of sexy.
Favorite lyrics:

#14 - WILL YOUNG - JEALOUSY
An amazing comeback for Will, the original Pop Idol/American Idol winner. A dance song with Robyn teas (heartbreak on the dancefloor), Jealousy comes from deep inside Will's mind, straight to our hearts. And that MUSIC VIDEO. Your closeted faves wish they could come up with something like that. A gay-relationship video? YASS!! Not even Adam Lambert had the guts to pull it off, so kudos to Young's bravery and impact.
Favorite lyrics:
"And my whole world is under attack. What kinda love am I facing?"

#13 - FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE - SHAKE IT OUT
A ****ing anthem. I love songs that start all quiet, and come out with fireworks by the end. This is the best example. This is the best song to introduce Ceremonials, and to prove why Florence is succesfull. Mix dark lyrics, a sing-along chorus, and a rhythm that becomes louder and louder, and you have an instant classic.
Favorite lyrics:
"Cause I like to keep my issues strong. It's always darkest before the dawn"

#12 - LEONA LEWIS - COLLIDE
Avicii must be smoking rocks if he thinks I'm featuring him in this song. Levels is my ****, but Collide is all Leona. I don't get the hate for this song. I find it completely mind-blowing. I even used it for a school project. Y'all bitches wanted Leona to go dance, and I applaud her for doing it her way. It's easy to **** Dr. Luke for a couple of hits, but Leona is a true talent. Everything about this song is magical, from Leona's voice (made for the club), to the unbelievale piano-riff. And what makes it interesting is the the change in genre for the singer, and the lyrical metaphors. And the exploding chorus by the end. How this flopped (sort of) is beyond me.
Favorite lyrics:
"Crash into me, at full speed. Crash into me, we can collide"

#11 - BEYONCE - LOVE ON TOP
I was gonna go with Countdown, but the sample annoys me. Enter Love On Top. From the moment I heard the song at the VMA's, I was in love. The 80s-Stevie Wonder vibe makes it an easy listen, and the tune just takes you to simpler times. In a world full of Madonna's re-interpretations, this modern take on R&B classics brings a gulp of fresh air to any iPod.
Favorite lyrics:
"When I need you make everything stop, finally you put my love on top"

ATTENTION: WORST SONGS OF THE YEAR
#4 - CHER LLOYD - SWAGGER JAGGER
You know when your parents think something is cool and hip, but it's really not? Well, Swagger Jagger is the result of an old man (Simon Cowell) trying to market a young star with what he thinks is cool and hip. The song is just all over the place. Do the lyrics even make sense? Twitter references? God... And that cheap-ass video, please. I expected something urban from Ms. Lloyd. Instead, I got a ****ing mess.
