Next up, my #10 album of 2011
Quote:
Talk That Talk - Rihanna
When I heard that Rihanna was doing yet another album, I was a little anxious. I had known for a while that she wouldn't go back to her Rated R days, and I certainly wasn't ok with having another Loud-esque album clogging up my iTunes.
However, I was pleasantly surprised when Rihanna managed to deliver the best of Rated R and Loud onto one album. She keeps the dance-vibe going with We Found Love and Where Have You Been, but she also manages to bring the confidence and gravitas that she displayed ever-so-well in Rated R with the title track, Watch n Learn, and Cockiness.
However, Talk That Talk comes with its flaws. It's too short, I'm annoyed that Birthday Cake isn't a full song, it clearly has filler but won't admit it, and the album cover kinda sucks. However, for a Rihanna album, it's certainly among her best work

Back to the songs
Quote:
Motivation (feat. Lil Wayne) - Kelly Rowland
Hey look! A hit from someone in Destiny's Child who isn't Beyonce! ****, I thought you girls were working desk jobs by now (Michelle might be doing that still). Anyway, this song was my sexy **** this year. Whenever this came on at my work, I was falsetto-ing the **** out of it. Yeah, Wayne's verse is annoying (does he just smoke cigarettes 3 hours at a time?), and it's a little cheesy, but it's the first bona fide hit from Kelly Rowland since Dilemma, and it's actually pretty good.
This is Kelendria's only appearance on my Best Of. Letoya and Michelle remain unseen

TTT is way too flawed, yes, but the songs that do work work pretty well. I CANNOT get "Where Have You Been" out of my head.

Onto movies!
Quote:
Crazy, Stupid, Love.
At first glance, Crazy Stupid Love seems like another average rom-com, with predictable storylines, unfunny jokes, and a general feeling of "We've seen this all before". However, once you get into the star-studded cast, the hilarity of the jokes, and the craftsmanship it takes to weave so many different storylines into one, and to still leave surprises for the audience, you end up walking away from CSL thinking "Wow, that was actually pretty good". Carell and Moore bring their A-game, but it's Stone and Gosling that truly hold the emotional core of this movie, and ensure that this film will be looked upon as one of the best in their respective careers. It has its flaws, and Kevin Bacon is the most ****ing annoying actor of all time, but when something is as excellently told as this is, you can't help but hold a special place for it.
Oh, and Marisa Tomei rivals her Oscar-winning performance in My Cousin Vinny with only 10 minutes of screentime.

Back to songs again.
Quote:
Bounce (feat. Kelis) - Calvin Harris
Calvin Harris finally took the advice of virtually everyone, and started to take a more Guetta-esque approach to his career. His vocals are horrible, but they're certainly not what he needs to keep getting hits (re: Rihanna).
Anyway, Harris really pulls out everything to make his debut producer-only single a hit, including hiring the new queen of electro Kelis. Her lovely high vocals carry this song when it needs to be carried, and Harris' beat smacks you when you're ready to dance. It's a damn shame this didn't hit #1, but you can't win them all. I wish the beat didn't sound like a radio-rip of a Guetta song half the time, it's a little too LQ for me
This is Calvin Harris' first appearance on my Best Of.

Time for my #10 show
Quote:
Adventure Time
I'd hate to sound like a hipster, but I was one of the first people to see the pilot of Adventure Time all the way back in 2007 when it was on YouTube as a pet project of Pen Ward. The show was rumored for a long while, and when it finally came to fruition early last year I was all over it.
Adventure Time's sense of childlike imagination is wondrous to watch, and they manage to fill it with new and weird characters each week. It manages to be heartwarming, entertaining, and hilarious all in one, and it's oee of the best children's programs on TV right now.

Last song of the day
Quote:
Love You Like A Love Song - Selena Gomez
I've always held a soft-spot for Gomez. Her early music reminded me of Mexi-pop bands, and I was drawn to it. However as my taste improved, I moved away from Gomez' simple beats and simple lyrics. However, this single is trying to drag me back to her. The beat is fresh, the vocals are fun, and the fact that it was a single still amazes me. These kinds of choices prove that Gomez has some kind of direction in her career, and that she clearly wants a part in her success.
This is Gomez' only appearance on my Best Of.

Honestly, the only thing that I remember about Crazy Stupid Love is the TV ad that had "Starlight" in it. I did here that the movie itself was pretty good, though.
"Bounce" is decent enough, but, believe it or not, I'm here for LYLALS! It's either the guiltiest of guilty pleasures for me this year or the song that finally legitimized Selena in my eyes. I'm not sure which is the case yet.

It's a very interesting single choice, and that's why it showed up on my list at all to be honest. It's fun though, and almost everyone whom I've talked to enjoys this song in one way or another

I wasn't here for the "bi-polar breakdown" that people talk about, but I've been here for Celestial's return to ATRL and it's been pretty good. She listens, she's always ready to answer questions, and she's a real bitch when she needs to be. However, she manages to ignore all the stupid shade, and only goes in when necessary. Kudos.

That's all folks! See you all tomorrow
