Discussion: Is Taylor Swift the biggest popstar in the United States?

Yes she is, and no she's not a country artist. She's completely pop now, but for some reason the country clientele refuses to let her go and still gives her country awards and such for whatever reason. Any other country artist would not be caught dead with 90% of the songs from Speak Now on their album.

I swear, can't one person at least take the time to read my original post. Her songs get spun more than any other artist. If that weren't enough, most of the bitches in the game have never had a single as successful as Love Story.

She's the girl next door, she writes greatsongs, her voice is good, she's got talent, she's not overplayed, she's down to earth, she seems like one of the nicest celebrities.
Seriously, why the hate

Not liking is NOT the same than hating. It's not a "if you aren't with me, you are against me" thing. No offense, but I'm sick of people saying "why don't you like her? He's so nice, etc, etc". I'm simply not attracted to her, but I also don't have nothing against her. Is it so hard to understand?

Because the other pop artist don't attract to other genres like Taylor does, this is obvious. The majority of her songs are both "pop" and "country" while the other girls are just "pop" in majority. This isn't discrediting her sales at all, this is just saying she attracts various audiences, while majority of the other girls only do one.

She is being overshadowed by Adele this year, but there is no doubt she is the most successful female singer of the last 3 years, even her least successful album that didn't peak at ·1 sold incredibly well

Actually touring is the most important aspect of a recording artist's career and we know Taylor is a beast in that area so she wins.

No. She's the female Justin Bieber. Don't get me wrong, what I mean is she sells shitloads of albums because of her teen followers.

Now go read my last post.
If it was easy to appeal to more than one genre as a popstar, the other girls would obviously do it since it's apparently such a surefire way to get more sales as you said. The fact is, it's not, and her presence as a popstar shouldn't be discredited for it.

Have you ever been to one of her concerts? She is certainly not as teen-based as all of you think.

You don't think appealing to more than one "type" of audience is a way to get more sales? I never said she couldn't be a pop star, simply saying she isn't only a pop star.

I think so. She has been more consistent in album sales than anyone else, she is instantly recognizable (whether it be for the Kanye thing or the whole "innocent girl next door" image she portrays in the media). Not to mention she has a strong base that stretches more than one or two audiences. I don't think she was as visible in mainstream pop as she was before due to the lack of a huge crossover hit, but I do see her as possibly the biggest pop star in the U.S. Yes, she's country, but she's a crossover country artist with lots of popularity, thus making her a pop star.

Taylor is the kind of music my mom likes too, and we could listen to together. Shed be happy to have one with the concert with me
She has a more varied fan base than just tween or teen girls. I'm a 17 year old guy, my sister is 22, my mom is almost 50 and we all love Taylor swift.

I believe Rolling Stone once had something to say about this...
Of course, it'd be interesting to see how the numbers stacked up now that Taylor's tour has mostly ended, Born This Way has settled down, Adele has continued to slay the Hot 100, Beyonce has released 4 and Rihanna has started the new promo campaign. Taylor would still be top 4 though.

I think she is the only successful Country/Pop hybrid act to crop up since Shania threw in the towel six years ago. I even think that a lot of her material derives from Shania's formula in regards to bridging pop-country-adult contemporary-singer song-writer music in the mainstream. So yes she is successful. I don't really think that can be argued. However I do think the term "most successful" and then only using the last four years as evidence for your claim is a bit sketchy, the cards are so obviously stacked in her favor once you start counting from Fearless inward and then only include domestic sales receipts. You closed the door on any arguments that could have been formed once you did that.

She's bigger than Bey at the moment.

All we need now is a big crossover hit to build a bridge to her next album and amazon can start working on that 99c deal.
