I have heard of kids at that age threatening to commit suicide but never of one actually doing it. At that age they tend not to understand what that means. And I do think that some kids who are molly coddled too much just need to grow a thicker skin.
My cousin, when he was 10, said he was getting bullied so bad at school that he was depressed and wanted to die. It turned out the 'bullying' was people refusing to laugh at his jokes and 2 boys who were a higher level on runescape who said he wasn't good at it...
The term is thrown around to loosely which is why cases like this end up happening. So many kids say they are being bullied and people don't take it seriously because the majority of the cases are nothing but the kid not getting it's own way...so then when it is serious, people brush it off. That is a huge problem.
May the poor kid rest in peace and I hope his family get through this. How horrific.

Why the **** are people bringing Gaga into this and acting like it is all a big joke and for their amusement?
What the hell is wrong with some people I'll never know.

No, you specifically brought Gaga into a conversation in which she had nothing to do with anything. Implying that all Gaga's fans commit suicide or are depressed is ignorant, idiotic, insensitive and makes you look completely heartless. You think the death of an 11 year old is something great to make a joke about, yeah let's being stanning for an artist into this because it is TOTALLY relevant and just hilarious. This kid is obviously not Jamey, they were both bullied and both ended their lives, let's not make jokes at any poor souls expense.
**** up. Seriously.

People commit suicide every day. Nothing new here. Sure, it's more tragic when a child does it, but unfortunately, it happens. At the end of the day, its nobody's fault but the individual's when they take their own life. You would think as a therapist, the grandmother would have been a little more vigorous on handling this situation. If your child was attacked like that, it should've been taken to the school board and possibly even the police.
And cosign to what Deeds said, I don't know what kind of rock some of you have been living under, but you need to get out of the libreal media kool-aid sipping mentality and understand that bullying isn't something new or growing. It's always happened and will continue to happen. The press LOVES to latch on to its readers heart-strings and arouse tension and sympathy when its relevant. Everyone's experienced some degree of bullying or mockery. Kids are cruel. You get some on your chest and move on. And that's part of where the parents role comes in.
Congress is not going to waste their time and pass a ******** law that's going to start giving criminal records to 9-year olds.

I feel sorry for these people but it's their own choice and decision. Yes, he's only 11 years of age, but he was determined enough to keep that bag over his head till it took his life....if he wanted to live, he would've had time to take the bag that he placed over his own head. The parents should have rose him better. This is no longer the 1930s where you dress and act formally and not expect to be insulted and bullied. You can't just be soft. You need a backbone to belong and get ahead of this world.

Awww, this is so sad.
I just got back from a football game where this little boy that looks a lot like the kid in the picture was looking for his football and so sadd that he couldn't find it. It was heartbreaking, but I'm glad I was able to find it for him. It's random, but I got a bit touched by that scene, so imagine coming home and reading this.
Anywayy, kids are so mean. I've never experienced bullying, even from a third party perspective really, but I do know that kids, especially middle-school aged can be horrible to people sometimes. I hate that careless teasing can sometimes turn into something much, much worse.

This is just ridiculous, it's getting outrageous.
Something has to be done about bullies. IMMEDIATELY!

Schools should have prevention programs against suicide before someone actually commit it. Especially when it doesn't matter how old are these kids they still know how to kill themselves because they have seen or heard about it on television or the newspaper.

Like he is the only one in the world who has ever gotten bullied? Like he couldn't raise his voice a speak out to a teacher, parent, counselor, etc...??
And bullying is no secret, why the parent's seemingly did NOTHING until the boy killed himself is beyond me. After being diagnosed with a disease and his mother dying -- the poor boy probably needed some counseling too.

I don't feel sorry for him and I'm prepared to write an entire speech to anyone wondering why, I am so over this bullied to death excuse that everyone is using over the smallest things today. There are people being raped, beaten, and living on the streets and these little boys are killing themselves because someone pushed them or called them a ***. If their parents would first accept them and teach them that **** happens, they could prevent their children from death so early. If bullies know they can get rid of the things they don't accept by simply saying a few words and taunting them, that is what they will do until they are all dead and gone. Most of these kids are killing themselves because they keep hearing other people are doing it.

If preventing suicide was easy as that, would it even be an issue? You guys aren't psychology experts, so just stop talking if you have nothing useful to say. And I also love how none of you are holding the bullies responsible, and the system that allows the issue of bullying to permeate as well. Victim-blaming at its ****ing finest.

Depending on some areas, school transfers may not be easy to do, even when the reason for it is because a child is being bullied.

Aw, wow. Do we know why he was being bullied?
But ch... at this point, parents need to start doing stuff. Because ch, when I was in 1st grade, this big fat ass 5th grader tried to bully me on the bus. So my mom drove down to school, had a chat with the principal, and the next day, the kid was moved to the special bus, which he had to ride for the rest of the school year.
A. Kids need to stop being so gotdamn mean.
B. Kids need to grow some gotdamn thicker skin.
C. Parents need to play a bigger gotdamn role in their childrens lives.
^^^^Truth.

Bullying will only stop/reduce if it's illegal. Kids, who barely know how to defend themselves, shouldn't have to die/be abused.

You completely missed the point. For whatever reason you're perceiving us as if we're saying "Oh, look at boy, he's stupid and deserved to die". And do you have a Ph.D in Psychology? If not, your opinion is no more credible than ours. Bullies are responsible for the actions they commit, not the victim's suicide itself. Unless somebody is holding a gun to your head telling you to kill yourself, or they'll do it themselves, nobody can force you to kill yourself. I'm always a little more sympathetic when it's a child, but when it's a grown person, I don't even waste my time. You know better.
That's the problem with America nowadays, we're living in a society that raises people to feel sorry themselves. Especially young boys, 50 years ago you would have rarely heard of an 11-year boy killing himself because he was being bullied.

How is it a waste of time if it improves the lives of children and saves even one life?
