I think it's a decent debut with some emotional and compelling songs that take me back to the early 00's. It has a sameness and lack of versatility that some might shun but I think they have room to grow, and if they don't well then I'll just drop em.

Ro James is probably lowest on the list among the few male R&B artists to release a major-label debut album in 2016, but one thing he's got on some of them is that he actually sounds like a grown ass man and its sexy.

Every heavily instrumental album with minimum guest vocals can be quite hard to get into but they make the type of jazz that's accessible enough to people who normally don't care for jazz.

43. The Avalanches, Wildflower

There's some filler but the songs that actually matter are so well crafted and I've never seen an artist do that so well with a bunch of samples - to craft songs off the face of samples alone. On top of that it gives off playful childhood feelings, so fun.

42. Blood Orange, Freetown Sound

In the '10s so many have tried to recreate an 80s sound, not knowing that it's not just the beat that you recreate that's going to make it good, it's the tone and your vocals that really do it. He nails it all the time, but Cupid Deluexe >>

Zayn's not really pushing the pop boundaries but I really appreciate him for not jumping on one trend (dance/dancehall influenced) but hopping on another that's more fitting for his voice (R&B). He's cute or whatevers

The lack of a Chamakay/YNGE on Freetown along with the length made me skrrrt a bit, he made his statement though + I respeck it. Wet was kinda one-note for me yeah, but good songs by themselves

Freetown Sound has some filler that could have been left off (the outro for instance) but the entire last half of the album from Desiree to I Know is immaculate

Wildflower is one of the most creative albums of the year imo. Ofc it couldn't surpass its predecessor but that was a task itself. Freetown Sound is great tho meh in some areas.

Zayn... idk. I haven't had the drive to listen to his album, but Like I Would showed me he has some promise.

Love the Blood Orange album for sure. It's too much on the long side to really grip me to listen multiple times, but I appreciate the sentiment and I think he did a great job of compiling a strong statement.

Wet are... kind of flat. I was interested in them when they released this EP some time ago but didn't end up following through. It's a sound that is starting to get beaten to death so i've just lost touch.

Ro James is cool. That song may or may not be on my list

I swear I was the first one to discover her but I don't stan so I just let the vultures get to her. I'm glad I waited because I don't really use her anymore. "Youth" is still legendary.

Aw man, I was worried that this would be the case...and it looks like I was right. It's definitely no Youth...though I may like "Body Talk" more than any song off of Youth.

Shh, I have not listened to The Avalanches album. Shhhhhh.
