I know ATRL is gonna trash me for this, but The Chainsmokers really delivered quality hits this year. I knew Don't Let Me Down was a smash from the first time I heard it at the beginning of the year, and Closer proved they have potential staying power more than the usual quick lil DJ hit. All We Know and Setting Fires rounded out a great fusion of pop and EDM. Plus, Drew Taggart is really hot.
Standout track: Don't Let Me Down (feat. Daya)
#16: Flume - Skin
Genre: EDM
Plays: 54
I'm not typically one for EDM albums, but Flume provided an inventive, fresh take on electronic music with his debut album Skin. Catchy hooks mesh with slick production in songs like Say It (with Tove Lo) and Never Be Like You. Instrumental tracks like Helix also shine, proving Flume has a lot of room for growth in the coming years. He's also really hot.
Standout track: Never Be Like You (feat. Kai)
#15: Various Artists - Suicide Squad: The Album
Genre: Pop, alternative, hip hop, soundtrack
Plays: 57
Three of my faves on one soundtrack? Yas please. Heathens and Sucker For Pain proved to be some of the years best hits, while album cuts like Wreak Havoc and Gangsta provided the bops to soundtrack both my summer and the Suicide Squad film.
Standout track: Heathens
#14: The Weeknd - Starboy
Genre: Pop, R&B
Plays: 73
What did the Weeknd do? He did that. I don't know if my bussy has bopped harder than it did jamming to this album. False Alarm is the ultimate MJ meets 2016 jam, while the title track's slick vocoder solo provided one of pop's best moments this year. I Feel It Coming is the best song don't @ me.
Standout track: I Feel It Coming (feat. Daft Punk)
I saw a picture of Flume's face for the first time yesterday, so now I think I need to listen to his album. However, your mention of a Tove Lo collab is making me reconsider.

great update!
I love Heathens and Gangsta from the soundtrack
Starboy is amazing!
Skin also made my list
The Chainsmokers' Rozes, Setting Fires and Don't Let Me Down are great. All We Know and Closer are trash though
Top Album: Smoke + Mirrors

The #1 artist of 2016, Imagine Dragons basically slayed just because they're my faves hihi. The only song I remember them releasing was Levitate earlier this week, so their top played song was a standalone single released late last year. I'm looking forward to their third studio album in 2017 as hopefully some renewed commercial (and critical) success.
Top Song: Roots
#16: Kelly Clarkson
Top Album: Piece By Piece
Plays: 137
Better known as Belly Clarkson, Kellendria Clarkson made a huge splash this year by crying on failed talent show American Idol, sending a flop single into the top 10 and making her stans come out of hiding to claim she has impact. Her slay team then followed up the success with a remix album, which spawned more tearjerkers including Tightrope (Tour Version), and a Nostalgic remix that was so bad it made me cry.
Top Song: Piece By Piece (Idol Version)
#15: Gwen Stefani
Top Album: This Is What the Truth Feels Like
Plays: 138
Ms. Stefani was in charge of providing the year's best pure pop song in the form of Make Me Like You, which flopped. She went on to provide an urban bop (Asking For It), a bop to cry to (Used To Love You), and other bops which made my bicurious ass happy. I'm hoping she doesn't die before she gets around to making another album.
Top Song: Make Me Like You
#14: Coldplay
Top Album: A Head Full of Dreams
Plays: 153
In addition to releasing an album late last years, contributing to plays carrying over, I saw Coldplay live in early September, leading to further plays. To get serious for a moment, I'm thankful for the band, especially with their album Ghost Stories, for getting me through a really hard personal time in January and February. Chris Martin practically wrote the feelings I was feeling and said the words I couldn't say to anyone else. Also Hymn for the Weekend is a bop.
Top Song: Hymn for the Weekend (kinda feat. Beyonce)
I should report you just for slandering the Nostalgic Remix Glad to see talent in your countdown, will surely make up for the deficit we will see later on

That performance was basically the musical highlight of the year tho.
