I didnt see it racist at first. I just thought it was playing with the pronunciation of Harambe(Ha-rahm-BEY) so he added beyonce's name since she's popular. Obviousyly can be seen as problematic since white people love associating black people with apes.
I noticed it a few days? ago and thought the same thing but then realized I was talking about Diplo who, truthfully, isn't that smart and he laughs at literally everything
It's wrong to call or reference a black person as an ape/monkey because of it's historical connotations, but honestly context matters in 2016. Cause so many people aren't even THINKING in that direction anymore. If we're going to beat racism, we have to be smarter than pointing fingers over petty offenses and focus on the actual issues.
He clearly worked on Lemonade (and gave us Beyonce's best song "All Night", bless!) so he definitely means no disrespect to Bey. The obvious answer is that he's mashing together two of the biggest cultural markers of 2016, Harambe and Beyonce. It's a (low level, non-clever) play on words. But miss me with the racism ********.
