A ballad doesn't have to be a song where a woman is belting at the top of her lungs about how her boyfriend cheated on her or how much she needs love today.
Ballads can be sensual too. "Promise" cuts it close to being a mid-tempo, but I call it a ballad because it really puts me in a different place, emotionally. "Any Time, Any Place" is a ballad. "Where Life Begins" is a ballad.
Brandy has ballads WAYYY better than many of these people everyone's naming.
She's so underrated. Go and listen to her albums "Full Moon" and "Never Say Never" and then come back here and say Ciara, Rihanna and Beyonce have the best ballads.
to Eli for mentioning Brandy! She really has amazing ballads and people are missing out!
OMG BAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA OH MY ****ING GOD NOOOOOOO!!!!!
Zach, he's talking about how Christina constantly ducks out of notes - like how she's never done the bridge of Beautiful the same way she recorded it - eight years later, it's now looking like she can't hit that super high note.
For every good vocal they have, there are twice the number of bad ones.
I'm just kidding anyway.
Mariah is obviously the Queen. Any other response is just laughable. However, there are some worthy adversaries.
You're right.
"I Will Always Love You" is better than all of Mariah's ballads despite the fact that only 2 or 3 of Whitney's other songs can hold a candle to Mariah's best work.
