They have been doing some interviews and revealed some interesting stuff about the album :

It basically says this record's about sex and death while Happiness was about love and loss.
They were inspired by NIN's The Downward Spiral while making Exile + it sounds vastly different than it's predecessor.
ALSO :
'Somebody To Die For' was
originally intended to be on Happiness but it wasn't finished.
It took them three years to finish it (will be epic I think)
'Exile' - 'The Road' - 'Miracle' and some others are the ones that are
more heavier, industrial-ish.
'Blind' - 'Help' are described as typical Hurts songs, the latter's a
choir-assisted classical Hurts ballad.
and
'Sandman' sees them venturing into
R&B and Hudson Mohawke-ish dance territories.
