Would Queen Gaga lie?
Quote:
Lady GaGa is clearly forging her own path as she dances her way to the top of the charts, but she remains grateful to her fellow offbeat sisters who have helped cleared the trail before her.
"I will always have a very deep love for Amy Winehouse, she tells PopEater. Because of Amy, very strange girls like me go to prom with very good-looking guys."
We think the purveyor of such hits as 'Just Dance' and 'Pokerface' is talking metaphorically about mainstream acceptance of the British beehived one. But to make sure, we asked her to explain. She gave us another analogy: "She's a different kind of woman. I don't believe that what I do is very digestible, and somehow Amy was the flu for pop music. And everybody got a little bit of the flu and got over it, and fell in love with Amy Winehouse. And now, when more flu comes along, it's not so unbearable."

"Amy is a true phenomenon. [Because] Amy was big in America ... I think it made the journey smoother" - Adele.

Adele could die tomorrow and she would be more of an influential artist than Amy.
Amy IS a big icon , but her influence is limited.
Amy was huge only in the U.K . And dont go on to say that Adele is influenced by Amy , cause even tho Adele is huge WW she is British , that's why she is so influenced by her . Amy had a massive impact on the UK music scene . However , I believe that it was Amy's unstable persona , her drug drama and her untimely death that shocked and devasted the g.public and her fans and caused such a media frenzy .
I love Amy to pieces , however , even tho her contribution to music was big her influence on it was limited . After all , one album [Frank did nothing , it only received c. acclaim] cannot influence the industry that much .
Her death , however , had a much bigger impact on both people and artists .
So , summing up , I think Amy's turbulent career , appearances and death had a bigger impact on people and on the industry.
Her music WAS influential , but she only had limited impact.

I think Amy Winehouse was the predecessor to Duffy and Adele, both of which were kinda big and gigantic, respectively.
But Gaga did bring Music Videos, Avant Garde fashion, dance music, pop music, gay rights, Beyoncé, and bisexualty to the mainstream, so it's a bit hard to say.

She was a very important British soul artist; Back to Black and Rehab are considered some of the greatest albums and songs of all time, respectively. She had a lot of influence on popular music, and on Gaga herself.

Thank you
Honestly I dont think I've ever heard an Amy winehouse song I feel bad about it but I would believe she's influential
In 20 years time, we'll be able to tell who influenced the most

Amy Winehouse rose to fame by just being herself. Amongst all the headlines of drug and alcohol abuse, she kept her North London accent, dress sense, tattoos, and she said and did what the **** she wanted.
As Lady Gaga said herself, Amy paved the way for the 'not so normal' looking artists. It probably isn't as obvious to anyone living outside of the United Kingdom, but her sound, attitude and the exposure she gave herself for her own music was self-destructive, embarrassing and she point blank sold her soul to the music industry.
The closest Gaga has got to exposing herself was the Marry The Night video, whereas Amy wrote a whole ****ing album.
|
Exposing yourself doesn't translate into impact.
I'm not even sure she was showing any sort of bravery by "being what the **** she wanted," either. Her life crumbled repeatedly in the public eye, and she didn't seem to have enough self-control to do anything differently.

Michael Jackson is dead as well, but he still makes headlines and is more relevant than any artist of today. Amy has not retained that level of relevance at all. And Gaga pushed boundaries in her music videos such as Telephone, Bad Romance, and Born This Way. Nobody in present were doing what those videos contained. I'm not even a Gaga stan (though this bitch is warming up to me ) so my opinion isn't slanted or biased. And no, Adele broke out all on her own. Get out with that logic.

Well, Michael is obviously a bigger artist than her, not to mention people are only trying to milk his name. Music videos is not compared with music in general, no one was doing what Amy did, yet several people were making similar music as Gaga before her. And you have to be delusional not to belive Amy paved the way to Adele, she only released her first album alongside Duffy and all these UK singers after BTB smashed. She's responsible for this type of sound being appealing to the general public and radios.

Amy was not "only big in the UK."
Her album went 2x Platinum in the US, Diamond in Brazil, 2x Platinum in Russia, etc.

I know what you mean by this statement - i.e. Amy certainly opened the doors to a new generation of soulful British females to make their mark in music.
But please don't doubt that Adele would have made it anyway.

Amy re-defined mainstream music.
Gaga just continues on the success of the dance-pop genre.

Her music is REALLY good, you should listen to it. You might have already heard Rehab without knowing it; it was a top 10 hit in America.

Does everyone here really feel like Amy impacted Adele's music that much? That she's the sole power responsible for Adele's rise? I mean, Adele never even saw real success until she embraced pop.
