I find her music to be over-rated. I think people feel like they have more substance if they listen to Adele because she is something other than Katy Perry and Britney Spears when in fact you can listen to whatever the hell music you want and still have substance as a person. She makes people feel intelligent and sophisticated. British, talented and not the kind of appearance expected from the music industry these days.

I agree Adele's music is very good but now overrated, and I've said the very same thing you said about her making people feel superior.
BUT she represents "the voice" of this generation more than any other artist now. It's kind of a dumb title to have, but Christina fans have thrown it around for years, and now it falls in Adele's court.

Neither is her acclaim as big as Adele's. So, the Susan Boyle/Adele comparisons are dumb as hell. I can see someone comparing Adele to Amy, because unlike Susan Boyle, Amy had acclaim, wasn't a talent show reject and won numerous industry awards. Call Adele a phase all you want, but don't put her on the same planet as Susan Boyle.

I said the Susan Boyle factor because people felt cultured and good about themselves for listening to her. It was nothing to do with a talent show.

The Voice of Our Generation?
I don't like this title. It sounds... meh.
In fact, I don't like any sentences/phrases with the word "our generation" in them.

I don't agree, I think she has a long way to go before she can hold that title. I honestly don't think anyone will care about Adele in a few years. But she has a phenomenal voice yes. I honestly don't know who the voice of our generation is but I think people like Alicia Keys are equally as talented but haven't been in the spotlight recently.
Perhaps she is the voice of right now, 2011, but I don't think she could be called the voice of our generation quite yet.

dead at the susan boyle factor.. a mess... Susan may have sold a lot of albums but in no way did her album or her songs have any impact on pop culture.. Adele has a huge #1 song worldwide and album that has been #1 for over 20 weeks world wide with no intentions of slowing down in the near future. Not to mention industry respect..
don't ever put her in the same sentence as susan..lmfao

"21" is going to come close to outselling Beyonce's 1st 3 solo albums combined, and in the worst selling climate ever.
It's this kind of power that makes me think she deserves these titles.

Dead at no-one actually reading past the words Susan Boyle
Adele makes people feel less materialistic, less vain and more cultured. That is the Susan Boyle factor.

Honestly, as much as I'm a huge fan of Christina, I don't mind Adele being called 'the' voice of this generation, because, even if that isn't true, she truly has a fantastic voice and is capable of moving and bringing emotion to her songs like so few can. Though, in my opinion, she still has a lot to prove.
And we Christina fans don't have any reason to be 'mad' about that. Some people say we're the only ones, when in fact also the media still keeps calling X, after all these years, 'one of the greatest voices of this generation'.

Susan Boyle only became famous because of her looks and sly ol' Simon Cowell.

A claim this big cannot be made this early
The general public will not buy her music as they are now, she's just as huge as GaGa, Bey, Britney, Ashanti, xtina and others were in their debuts and Rihanna and Katy were in their biggest eras the difference is she has critical acclaim rather than media validation
Adele is a breath of fresh air and as much of a shame as it is the us public will be gasping by her album at the latest
Let's not act like Amy, lauryn and norah didn't exist

And my point remains, Adele and Susan Boyle aren't even in the same stratosphere. People brought into the "this ugly, fat lady has a beautiful voice" gimmick when it came to Boyle. Adele sold because people became interesting in her MUSIC, which SHE wrote based on her own experiences. She didn't have this Cinderella story going for her like Susan Boyle did. Before 21 was even released and she started to be accepted by the public, she won two Grammy Awards and a BRIT. And maybe for these bandwagoners, it's all about feeling sophisticated, but there are people who are actually into Adele's music, like myself. I'm really tired of some Britney, GaGa, etc. fans using that as an argument when it comes to Adele's success. It's ****ing tired.

Now this is a hell of a lot more meaningful that that coming from those who jumped on the Adele bandwagon.
She is hugely talented, she does have a lot to prove yet. One album does not make a legend, not to me anyway.

We don't feel like her music has more substance it does have substance which is what people are looking for. They don't want the repetitive Britney or Katy songs even as a Britney fan myself sometimes I don't want to listen to those pop songs because they have zero substance, there just for ***** popping. Yeah you can find something that has substance in any song you want but not everyone finds substance in those pop songs.

No, but that still doesn't take away from her successes.

Quite the opposite. She became famous because she was so ugly. If she was average-looking, she would have got to the final of Britain's Got Talent, lost, and been forgotten instantly.
