10 Lego House Ed Sheeran
I'm out of touch, I'm out of love. I'll pick you up when you're getting down and out of all these things I've done. I think I love you better now. I'm out of sight, I'm out of mind. I'll do it all for you in time and out of all these things I've done. I think I love you better now.
We’re in the top 10 and welcome to the Lego house. The metaphor for Lego used in this song is to describe a falling relationship. You see you build something like a Lego House and takes time to put it together and when the Lego House is dropped into the floor, it breaks apart since it’s so feeble. It takes time to put it together again like in a relationship where time is build into that until it all goes down suddenly and it takes even more effort to recover from it and build it up again. Ed sings about the tribal and errors in a relationship and the structure of it like a Lego House. Also Ed sings the feelings of the break-up and trying to work it out. Ed sings well in this song to convey the message through all the metaphors in the song and make it feel important and personal. The elegant sound and the soothing voice of Ed makes you feel right at home where the heart is. It peaked at #2 in my request countdown and was #1 in my personal countdown.
9 Rap God Eminem
I'm an MC still as honest, but as rude and as indecent as all hell. Syllables, skill-a-holic (Kill 'em all with)
This flippity dippity-hippity hip-hop. You don't really wanna get into a pissin' match with this rappity-rap. Packin' a mack in the back of the Ac backpack rap crap, yap-yap, yackety-yack and at the exact same time I attempt these lyrical acrobat stunts while I'm practicing that I'll still be able to break a motha-****in' table over the back of a couple of ******s and crack it in half. Only realized it was ironic I was signed to Aftermath after the fact. How could I not blow? All I do is drop F-bombs. Feel my wrath of attack. Rappers are having a rough time period, here's a maxi pad. It's actually disastrously bad for the wack while I'm masterfully constructing this master piece (yeah).
I wouldn’t dare to leave Eminem out of the top 10 especially that this is the song where he has not lost a step. This song right here is that in-your-face type of sh!t that Em is known for and he delivered with ease and much more. He went in to say whatever sh!t he has to say and make sure everyone remembers it and not only remember the song, but to remember that Em is still one of the greatest rapper alive by performing it very well and shows that raw intensity. He does it best whatever he raps so fast per second, making sure his taunts are to be heard clearly and make sure it’s over-the top enough to let everything sink in. I can’t really break this down since there is a lot to take in. In short, Em feels like a Rap God as shown in his rapid fire delivery. He’s one of the few rappers that can rap so much syllables per second and hold that much power. You got to give it your best like Em did and this song can make other rappers try their best like Kendrick did with Control. He references some sh!t regarding other rappers and their works and what’s been happin with Em himself along with his past work and the criticism he received and wonders if he was still popular like he was before. Em deliver some incredible technique that you really don’t hear a lot in Rap. Basically, this is such a different rap song than we are used to be hearing these days. Of course, this was #1 on my countdown. Actually, it debuted at #1. That’s as quick to get to #1 as it can get. Note that there is no hooks, but verses all starting with I’m beginning to feel like a Rap God. This song blew me away and Eminem proved that not only he still got it, but he’s indeed a Rap God. Why be a king when you can be a God? Kendrick (Collard Greens) and Kanye (I Am a God) feel the same way.
8 Sweater Weather The Neighbourhood
All I am is a man. I want the world in my hands. I hate the beach, but I stand in California with my toes in the sand. Use the sleeves on my sweater. Let's have an adventure. Head in the clouds but my gravity's centered. Touch my neck and I'll touch yours. You in those little high waisted shorts
Get ready to be pumped up. Actually not really. This song has you feel about the chilling feeling and have you in a grey state of mind. The light and dreary indie rock sound with the soft spoken vocals has set an atmosphere of a cold surrounding in which silence is the most meaningful thing here. Just let the sound and voice speak to you and feel the mood and feeling of it. Keep it relax and chilled and sink it in. The singer did a good job of telling the feeling of his intimate relationship with this one woman where their love is warm while the world is so cold and they keep each warm. In addition, we heard of their touching feeling and how exotic it is. The sweater is like a metaphor that helps them get close to their relationship either sexual or whatever. Whenever they are at, it’s best for them to be inside since both of prefer one love, two mouths, one love, one house, no shirt, no blouse. You get the picture. Again the sweater is a metaphor whenever the weather is cold or a situation is bad, he is there to comfort her in the holes of his sweater or holding her and make her feel safe. Basically, they have their own way to feel sensual and have a sexual eruption as well. This song is perfect for a cold summer day like for me, it was going to the beach where it had the cold fresh air and I can feel the cold water as I have toes in the sand while my ass is sitting down looking at the sky, the water, and the people in which some of them are wearing sweaters and shorts in this kind of weather. It’s true that California has its days of Sweater Weather though it doesn’t rain a lot there. California is experiencing a drought *cough*global warming*. Also for a cold day in general especially in the winter. It’s amazing how this song got so successful for this band. They were just this indie band that I discovered and not only it did so well in alternative radio, but it crossover to mainstream radio as well. I have been listening to this song all year long in 2013 and it works. It peaked at #2 in my countdown and have been on my request countdown before. This song did a great job for setting the mood and letting everything sink in and this is also great for people who want to get intimate in a different way. I reference this song when I feel it‘s too cold.
7 Safe and Sound Capital Cities
I could show you love. In a tidal wave of mystery. You'll still be standing next to me.
Here we are with this song that was released in 2011 and then it was send to alternative radio in late 2012 where it became a hit and crossover to mainstream radio where it became one of the memorable hits in 2013 and along the way, new videos were released. I love to dance around with this song as it has the energy to keep on going and you can dance like a fool in the videos. Just dance to this amazing song and let yourself go and go crazy. The beats and drums make me go step-by-step to the floor. The indie electric pop sound has me pumped and the trumpets. Dem trumpets. The trumpets made the song standout and feel like even more of a celebration. Also it’s a soothing song to have a dance with a significant other and have an incredible moment with each other in their own world. The love spreads into dance. All we want to do is feel safe and sound while we dance without any worries. It’s a crazy song to dance to in clubs and parties. Basically this song is about where a relationship is all happy and can’t wait to explore and experience the world. Even with all the troubles in the world, they have each other to feel safe and sound. Their love is so strong. Of course, this song is another of those songs that references their album title. Who knew 2011 music will be one of the highlights in 2013. I didn’t pay much attention to music in 2011 and even if I did, I don’t think I would’ve looked deep enough to find this crazed song. In Germany, it was used in a Vodafone commercial and was #1 in the German charts. It was stuck at #2 in my request countdown before it became #1 and is one of the songs that spend a lot time in the countdown and it also did well in my personal countdown. Great song. It‘s too bad that Capital Cities will probably be one-hit wonders because of this song.
6 Wake Me Up Avicii ft. Aloe Blacc
I tried carrying the weight of the world, but I only have two hands. I hope I get the chance to travel the world, but I don't have any plans. I wish that I could stay forever this young. Not afraid to close my eyes. Life's a game made for everyone and love is a prize.
I live for songs that has much diversity in music sounds. This song has just that. This EDM song includes house beats infused with folk music using the guitar and having soulful vocals that transcend the song into a new level. I mean a guy that can appreciate the different mix of music can really dig this and have fun with it and I am that guy. The vocalist did a good job of entering to one’s spiritual side and that there is hope that there is no rude awakening, but a spiritual awakening. He doesn’t want to live through all the hardships in life and he’s over his head with all the stuff he must and want to do. He didn’t realize that he had a purpose or even think he had one The vocals along with the amazing sound makes us see inside of our soul and wonder what path we’re in and if we‘re let life passed by or not. The video somewhat has symbols of one’s acceptance of the world and one group embrace them while another group shuns them. Also we all want to live young as much as we can and forget about the worries of the world. The person to be is one with youthful energy that is wiser to the world. I don’t know if you know this or not (you probably know this since we used the internet and we‘re more smarter than the typical person), but the guy who provides uncredited vocals for this song is Aloe Blacc, a Californian soul singer. The reason I included Aloe above is because he adds such a significance to the song that I cannot ignore and I know for sure that the Swedish DJ and producer Avicii doesn’t sing because of the unwritten rule of electric dance DJs do not sing in their songs and required uncredited vocals. In addition, I know Aloe Blacc before this song as I heard his song I Need a Dollar back around 2011 I think? I give him credited for his good work. The guitar in this song was performed by Mike Einziger of Incubus. Good sh!t to know. Also in the song, there is a beat break where nothing but the beats are heard and it’s an enjoyable part of the song to just have fun and dance to and rave along. A place where we can let it out. I understand the purpose of the song even though there is nothing to understand, but let the feeling of the music get to you and convey your own message. I do like to travel around the world while I’m young, but I’m lazy and busy with school and don’t got the money to do that. I do like to wake up where there’s nothing to be afraid about and my demons is in control. I want to have fun, but at the same time I worry that I’m not all confidence of the road I’m taking and if I’m taking more of an effort to excel in life. Am I letting life pass me by? Somewhat. I need to do something worthwhile otherwise what’s the point in life or the purpose. The song was first introduced at Ultra Music Festival where a live band, Aloe, Mike and other members of Incubus, and Avicii perform. One of the biggest songs in 2013 and it peaked at #1 in my request countdown and had a good run in my personal countdown. Also it achieve global success as it went #1 in numerous charts of different countries. It peaked at #4 in Billboard Hot 100. It was played in AAA, alternative, dance, rhythmic, and mainstream radio. A random country station might‘ve played this song. Such a great song this is to just get lost into. BTW, Aloe also released a solo acoustic version of the song in which was played in some HAC radio that didn’t want to play the original version. I liked Aloe‘s version of the song.

5 Royals Lorde
And we'll never be royals (royals). It don't run in our blood. That kind of lux just ain't for us.
We crave a different kind of buzz. Let me be your ruler (ruler), you can call me Queen Bee and baby I'll rule (I'll rule I'll rule I'll rule...). Let me live that fantasy.
The Lorde has spoken. What she has spoken in this song is the role that materialism and consumption plays in society particular in the US. The media loves to preach about materialism and consumption. The US has this mindset of bigger is always better and at times, that is not always true and could be a hazard to the environment in a long-term. Royals points out the problem of society’s aspiring to live the lavish lifestyle of pop artists, rappers, celebrities, billionaires etc. Also the US’s need of excess. While the rich gets all the goods, the poor nations barely get the basics. Lorde knows her position in the world and in modern society, New Zealand is irrelevant. Lorde only knows of diamonds and jewelry like that because of their role in popular culture. I hear ya. It’s really all about that money, money, yeah, yeah, yeah. The US media is pro-capitalism all the way and we have to respect that like we respect authority otherwise we will be given the negative stigma. Business, corporations and markets are more concerned about being more wealthy than actually making their products better and helping out their consumers along with advertising the same product over and over again and the new product has no notable differences than the last one. We are overexposed to ads. The success of this song is ironic since Royals is a shot to break off the norm of songs in the radio that are usually about love, partying, and the likeliness of showing off material stuff. As a result, Royals has turned society’s aspirations and the mainstream norms on its head. Lorde sounds wonderful in this song in the way she sings and goes along with the flow of the melodic tune to really make the listeners to get her words across. The finger snaps and the keep it slow pace of the music makes it more enjoyable and easy to relax to. Lorde makes her words catchy that a sing-along is nice with the slow, but exciting sound while conveying her message into life. The music sounds so nice with the lyrical content being the one that stand out the most and what critics mostly praise. She sings stuff like never seeing diamonds in the flesh, never or wanting to be royals, contrasting her lifestyle with the different lifestyles of millionaires and billionaires, and not getting caught with their love affairs. I bet the stans at ATRL thought Queen Bee was about Beyoncé , but no. She actually meant the insect and the use of queen bee is Lorde being a ruler for her own group that don’t live the royal luxury and she wants to live that fantasy. Lorde is fine with her friends just having enough money to have fun, but has to keep it in a budget. Everyone around Lorde knows that she and her friends don’t care that they’re not made from money and just wants to live life without a care in the world. Lorde contents on living her life on her wants not what society dictates. I tried to tell myself that. I don’t have money to blow, uhh uh oh. I don’t like making sure I don’t spend too much and making sure I’m frugal living, but also not to be cheap. I don’t mind hanging out in the food court with my friend eating McDonalds, pizza and watching ridiculous videos about cats and sh!t along with looking at video games. I have an urge to spend on what video games and other items that caught my eye, but I have to tell myself that I’m not rich and have to stop acting and feeling like one just because I have Financial Aid money. Also I have make sure that I don’t spend too much on food and snacks especially that I get cravings for chocolate and you know pizza is my favorite food ever. Money is on my mind because inflation rates are keep going up and the like are just forcing me to work hard for that money. Just when you think you have enough, you don’t. In cases like that, the dollar store is my friend. Money is my motivation to do well in my classes so I can get those grants and scholarships when I transfer to an university. You know how expensive universities are. I convince myself to appreciate the simple things and not go over the top like buying shoes from expensive brands and super fly clothes. I still wear the same two pair of shoes since the end of my high school days and they don’t look like trash since I took good care of them and have no desire to buy expensive shoes. I’m not really materialistic because I don’t have the money to be that right now and I already know that it‘s not necessary to be that. It would be nice though. It’s just that we should not thrive to be like that like society said it to be. I’m focusing on just have enough money so I can live on my own and get my own car and sh!t like that. Even though, I will never own a Cadillac, I don’t mind listening to songs from artists that can and enjoy that luxury. I take what I can get and make most of the fun I do have is what’s important. I like dreaming better because all the stuff I want is there and there will be no trouble. Basically, Royals was made so Lorde have something to relate to and relevant to her and people she knows. It’s funny that Royals put her on the map so she no longer can dream she is bigger that she can ever dream in her own fantasy since it’s reality. It’s even funnier that Royals is a pop song that condemns typical pop songs stuff and ending being a big hit. See, being similar, but different works. Lorde is more different than 2Chainz. Lorde got the name for this song from seeing an image of Kansas City Royals player George Brett signing baseballs and Lorde saw “Royals” across his shirt. Apparently, there were controversy in regarding in some lines of the song that was redeemed racist. "But every song's like gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom" was the line that some (particularly, some random feminist blogger) people cry foul upon. Obviously, if you weren’t pay attention to what’s the song was aiming at is that you would know that it actually adds into the prominent materialistic culture in the US and the lifestyles that the rich can afford to do. This one here is one of those lifestyles. The whole pre-chorus references different lifestyles. The “racist” line was the materialistic lifestyle that Hip-Hop promotes and she list some of the wealthy things associated to that culture (Maybachs, champagne, timepieces with diamonds) in the fourth line. Also in the fourth line, Lorde also lists affluent items that typical millionaires and billionaires buy ( Jet planes, private islands) and some crazy sh!t that was not really necessary and to show they got tons of money (a tamed tiger with a gold leash). The second line refers to the reckless lifestyles of rock stars (trashing the hotel rooms) and the elegant and royalist style (Ball gowns). Back to that “racist” line, could’ve have Lorde worded that line different, or it’s just this is the case of some people being racial-sensitive or taking something out of proportions. It’s ironic to label Lorde a racist because of this line if the ones called her out are also the ones who are racists. If you think racist thoughts, then you’re a racist just like the people that see there’s no racism in the world or cannot even see some subtle racism are also racist probably bigger ones. White people that they don’t see they have some kind of privilege are also racist. We will never know if the line is truly racist as Lorde opt to wisely not comment on this mess. Hopefully, I explains this clearly. Royals has some interesting success in the charts globally. Let’s start in the US. Royals first top the Alternative Songs chart and as a result, Lorde not only became the first solo female artist in 17 years to top that chart, but also have the longest reign atop ever for a female, surpassing the five-week reign of Alanis Morissette's You Oughta Know. Then she became one of the youngest artists ever at sixteen to top the Hot 100 with Royals and the first lead New Zealand act to have a #1 on that chart. Royals had sold over 4 million downloads in 2013.It debuted at #1 of her home country’s top 40 chart. It also debuted at #1 in UK’s Singles Chart, as a result, Lorde became one of the youngest solo artist to score a #1 in the UK chart. Royals also was #1 in different countries. Royals was used in different commercials and TV shows. There are a bunch of covers for Royals in which I haven’t heard any of them. In 2014, this song won Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year at the Grammies. Royals made it to #5 in this countdown and my personal countdown. In my request countdown, it was #1 multiple times. Let me say this, Royals is the average melodic tune that has a social statement to make, Team is living its own preferred world and the electric pop Tennis Court is the child that is afraid of fame and growing up. Lorde knows better than most original people and celebrities and doing more at 17 than I ever could at 19. Man, these young ones are putting me to shame and I kinda feel old about it.
4 Blurred Lines Robin Thicke ft. T.I and Pharrell
What do they make dreams for when you got them jeans on. What do we need steam for. You the hottest bitch in this place. I feel so lucky, you wanna hug me. What rhymes with hug me? Hey!
This is the REAL song of the summer. Having spend 9 weeks atop of the Hot 100 in the summertime. Blurred Lines was also the most downloaded song of the year. It’s a mult-format monster. Crossing in mainstream, rhythmic, urban, urban AC, Hot AC, and AC. Even AAA radio jump on the bandwagon for a short time. This song was overplayed during the summer on the radio and was a major player in the clubs. Almost everyone was digging the song and having the most fun they can get out of the song. This song made people dance and enjoy the f**k out of it. It’s a really catchy song that you can fun with, sing along to and not to take it seriously. Just have fun with the bravado of the song. It also has that retro vibe like some 70s R&B dance song of some sort. That some kind of groove to just shake it and make a fool out of yourself. I love blowing off some stream and just want to get down with the song. The summer was great with this song. I was surprised with the success of this song. I remember just randomly found the video of this song back in April and it was nice, but didn’t think it will do anything and dismissed it as just a random and low-key urban-like song that I will know because of the video and just the video. Well, the video and other versions of it are more (in)famous than the song, but we also heard the song everywhere. I mean everywhere and in the world. Not only the song got some success, it got to be a mega hit. I was blown away by how far this song has come. This is part of the trend of retro music. Robin sings like the charmer he is and knows how to sing like he is grooving into the music. Robin has people sing along with him at the same time enjoying the music vibe and dancing to the music. Come at Robin. Pharrell knows how to hype up the listeners and welcomes them to enjoy the party. Pharrell knows how to keep the party as heard in the song. Wooing in the background. Pharrell also produced the song. In addition, he’s playing with Robin whenever Robin says something, Pharrell be like “Hey, hey, hey”. They be dancing like old men and hollering at girls. T.I.’s verse was fine in the song. Just an addition to an already fun song. T.I being like the smooth and straight-shooter player that one cannot resist and showing off his pimpin skills. He knows how to make the word works and rhythm with the music to court to a girl. He can wait since he knows that the girl will recognize him and get with him. Blurred Lines was made to show off the hilariousness of three, grown men married with children singing, dancing and rapping. Just being total goofs was the intention along with the reactions of them being inappropriate and risky. Just messing around. This song is about Robin wanting to have rough sex with this girl. He hates it when there are blurred lines between her and him since this girl he is trying to woo is a party animal that has to maintaining a good girl image. In this case, he knows that she is interested in getting nasty with him, but she’s being a hard on since she’s a good girl. He tries to make sure if the girl would feel the same way if he feels about her. I know, I hate it too when girls don’t say if they’re into you or act like they’re not into you even if you have seen signs of being into you. They just want to blur the line to separate them. Well, you keep trying until you see there is no hope or you finally get between the lines with her and see that both of ya have something going on. It worked for Robin in this song. It sure be nice if girls would approach me instead of just only smiling or staring at me. I hate to make the move. Actually, I hate to approach anybody on anything period. I just need to be confidence and know what to say and how to say. Don’t want to say the wrong things or botched my speech since I have speech delay. It’s funny that the clean version had replace bitch with them saying ho! It’s not-so-subtle of hoe and one would think that, not the Santa’s ho, ho, ho! I say that you’re a hottest bitch is the highest form of flattery regarding how sexy one looks. It’s just said in a disrespectable level. Damn you a sexy bitch. Blurred Lines was #1 7 times on my request countdown and was #1 multiple times on my personal countdown. The price of being a huge ass hit is that there will always be controversy. Marvin Gaye’s family filed a lawsuit, claiming that Robin stole the music for Blurred Lines from Gaye’s Got to Give it Up. Robin mentioned that particular song in an interview before. Robin talk about how Blurred Lines came out in the interview. He and Pharrell were in the studio and told Pharrell that Got to Give it Up is one of his favorite song of ALL TIME! And Robin wanted to make a song like that can provide such a groove that song bought. If you listened to Got to Give it Up, then you would know it sounded very similar to Blurred Lines. It turns out that Robin actually used (sampled) the music from Gaye’s song to make Blurred Lines. Oops! Well, that Gaye song is a wonderful song so I don’t blame Robin for being “inspired” by it. Now, let’s get into the supposedly pro-rape controversy surrounding of the song. *Sigh*. There are people out there that say that this song not only sounded rape-y, but it promoted rape based on the lyrics found in the song. I know one might think of that considering the nature is to have some good-feeling, dirty, rough sex and Robin wants to convince the girl into having sex with him and the way Robin talks is like the typical guy trying to pick up a girl and saying things like “ohh so fine you look”. I believe that the context in the lines have two interpretations. This line is one of the lines that people thought of suggestive of rape: “Just let me liberate you, you don't need no papers. That man is not your maker and that's why I'm gon' take a good girl.” In one way, some people must’ve thought the rape tones as Robin unlawfully taking the girl away her man because he can and she is not legally bonded with her man and presuming to take the girl to Robin’s place where he can make her have sex with him. I believe that it can be also seen as Robin telling the girl that he should free her from the controlled relationship of her man because her man doesn’t treat her right like the type of girl she should be treated and the man doesn’t own her like you would own an object and that’s the reason Robin wants to take a girl because he believes that he will treat her what she wants to be treated. This line “I know you want it” is where it sounded creepy and rape-y to a good amount of people and critics. This made it seems that like Robin was sounding like a rapist would say to the uncomfortable girl that he knows that she knows she wants it even thought she clearly doesn’t or he assumes that the girl would want it so he is going to do it anyway. I actually don’t blame anyone thinking it sounded rape-y as it can make a girl feel uncomfortable especially if you say like in a creepy way or if you’re too pushy. Plus if you used this as a pick-up, then you probably have the girl roll her eyes or even worse, you probably get filed for sexual harassment or be label as a sex offender since the undertone is I know you want this dick. However, giving the context of the song, I interpreted as the girl knows she wants it, but doesn’t say it, and Robin knows she wants it, but he is waiting to see if she responds since this type of girl is an animal that likes to have fun and likes it rough, but apparently she’s a good girl. Maybe it can be seen as a playful tease or filtration. Also given the previous lines as in the lines I mentioned first is that already Robin wanted the girl to leave her man since he was no good for her and Robin believes that he will be good for her and deep down, the girl knows she wants Robin not only because she believes that he is right, but also that Robin is just good-looking. Honestly, if you were to attack this song for being inappropriate especially towards women, then you can say that about a lot of songs on the radio that expresses sexual desire, lust or expressing the fantasy of wanting to f**k a woman. Basically, degrading or being derogatory towards women just like this song. That doesn’t make right, but you don’t have to like it or listen to it anyway and we all know better so it‘s alright to be concern to those that don‘t or don‘t want to understand.. I guess it’s better keep your thoughts about lust to yourself. To make things clear about this, it’s not an issue that was blown out of proportions like the Lorde situation, but It‘s also not like when Rick Ross said in U.O.E.N.O. "Put Molly all in her champagne/ She ain't even know it/ I took her home and I enjoyed that/ She ain't even know it". That right there is straight-up date rape definition. I’m not sure if Rick really does that or not, but this is the case of not even knowing what you just said. Rick himself has been making uninspired music these days and saying unintelligible stuff that he ended up rapping this line. I don’t think I even put him in my worst list and he only appeared once as a featured in another song in my top Hip-Hop songs countdown. I hope that taught Rick a lesson to think before you rap sh!t and maybe he would start to make passable music again. All I am trying to say about the whole rape issue of Blurred Lines is that I understand people would think that way and I want to put my spin on that that it’s not entirely seen as a pro-rape song. At anything, this song can be used a shot to all the guys that are either persist or who cannot take a hint when no means no. And maybe to all of the perverts or those that like to fantasy kinky sh!t. Regarding to the sexism that some say are in this song, actually Blurred Lines has shown to have some positive things regarding like telling the girl that she has an independent thought and the man is not her maker as in he doesn’t own her and she can leave his ass if she wants to and Robin suggests she does for her own good. The only part that is true in regarding of sexism is Robin’s preferences of changing the good girl into a wild **** so he can have that rough sex. I say Give it 2 U is more misogamy than Blurred Lines since well, the former is more clearly in your face about its desires and in a feminist view, it’s saying about the mindset of men feeling entitled to women’s bodies. Both are the same as in saying inappropriate stuff to woman and wanting to have sex with them. Only Blurred Lines is more subtle while Give it 2 U is not. BTW, if you say the stuff that Robin said in Give It 2 U to a girl, then like I said before, sexual harassment lawsuit or labeled as a sex offender. Lastly, the most infamous controversy to happen involving the song was the performance of this song at the MTV’s music awards featured Miley f**king Cyrus. You already know what Miley did in that performance so let’s just let it alone. In conclusion, the award for most controversial song of the year goes to Blurred Lines. The mega hit is certainly a monster regarding global chart success and impact and I wonder Robin is up to now? Hey, hey, hey!

3 Get Lucky Daft Punk ft. Pharrell and Nile Rodgers
We've come too far to give up who we are. So let's raise the bar and our cups to the stars. She's up all night to the sun, I'm up all night to get some. She's up all night for good fun, I'm up all night to get lucky. We're up all night to the sun, we're up all night to get some. We're up all night for good fun, we're up all night to get lucky. We're up all night to get lucky, we're up all night to get lucky. We're up all night to get lucky, we're up all night to get lucky.
I was thinking hard that which song would be above the other. I know that Blurred Lines is the most popular one out of the two monsters while I think Get Lucky is the superior one. Most of the time, I though of Blurred Lines taking a spot above Get lucky, but I broke through and Get Lucky is at this spot. Out of the two, I like Get Lucky the best. This and Blurred Lines were the ones to dominate summer on the radio and the charts. This song was also a mult-format monster, playing all over mainstream, alternative dance, urban, rhythmic, Hot AC and AC radio. It also was played nonstop at the clubs where everyone was on the dance floor and getting lost into the music. I’m sure everyone got lucky on those nights. Get Lucky was #2 on the Hot 100 and along with Blurred Lines ruled the world charts and all over TV. One of the biggest hits of the year. Also looking at 2014, it won Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the Grammies. It has sold over 3 million copies in the US. Get Lucky had sold over a million copies in the UK in 2013 along with Blurred Lines and Wake Me Up. Get Lucky and Blurred Lines ruled my personal countdown because these songs bought life to me and it ruled everywhere else and I enjoyed it so much so yeah. The only place it didn’t rule with Blurred Lines was my request countdown because Get Lucky never got an official video for it (later on, there was unofficial video for it that Daft Punk didn’t formally release on You-Tube) and thus was not even on the list of videos to vote for. I’m sure The Nation would’ve had it at #1 a bunch of times. This was an exception when I debuted it on my personal countdown. Usually, I have only songs that have videos chart even though I don’t use video caps in The Zone. It’s just my unwritten rule that helped my mindset on listening to music and their momentum. I loved listening to this song on the radio whenever in the car driving to somewhere like the beach. It’s just felt great relaxing and listening to the beat of the song, the wonderful instrumental sounds, and the soothing vocals along with vocoder voices. Whenever I’m standing somewhere, I just loved to get loose. Live into the moment of the song. Feeling the great vibe I get from letting the music get to me and enjoying the ear candy I get from it. I love enjoying the retro sounds this song has and man, it has me on its knees. Pharrell’s soothing voice plays a huge part in the song where he just made the song feel so great with the melodic atmosphere. He has the charm to make you feel good and have that special connection with you that you end off hitting it off with him. I always like when Daft Punk goes off and have their moment of repetition with their computer voices while the electronic music plays. I have an addiction to this like I did in All Around the World known for the song that repeats the song title 144 times ( someone random You-Tube commenter and Rock Genius counted it) while the electronic music plays and it never got old since there were breaks where only the good old music would just play and a good combination of instrumental sounds were used like that bass line and the synthetic keyboard melody. So infectious. Daft Punk were the co-producers of this song with the Chic’s Nile Rogers being the other co-producer. R&B/Disco guitarist Nile helped out with the rhythmic guitars and the melodic riffs. All three artists have history with each other that it will take too much to get into so I just say that they have ultimate respect each other and were involved in the past musical works. This song is about the fortune and excitement of having a great interaction with someone along with sexual tension and getting laid. Pharrell mentioned that the song could mean anything and to him, its about the joys and feelings of a new relationship and the good that comes out of it, be it sexual or not. You could say that one would have a feeling of getting lucky with one that was creating blurred lines between the two until the connection was found after being up all night. Anyway, this funky disco with a great bass song also can work as a late night bar song. It’s the perfect song to not only to have fun with, but just to relax and trying to get to know someone and have a good moment with them that it will be a memory that can be access for a long time unless you guys get wasted and the memory is only temporary hence RAM. Enjoy the fruits of friendship. This song was so successful because not only it fit with the throwback style of the 70s, but it also was worked into creating something that stand out in electronic and dance music that felt fresh and can get a rush of magic that one can get in pop. It doesn’t matter if this song can be taken as a 2006 wannabe rap song, it’s the enjoyment of the music that have people running wild that matters. I had a great feeling out of this. No one expect this to be this of a smash hit and have different kinds of people that normally wouldn’t to listen to Daft Punk enjoy this sh!t too. We’re up all night listening the f**k out of this sh!t.
2 Thrift Shop Macklemore and Ryan Lewis ft. Wanz
Velour jumpsuit and some house slippers. Dookie brown leather jacket that I found digging. They had a broken keyboard, I bought a broken keyboard. I bought a skeet blanket, then I bought a knee board. Hello, hello, my ace man, my mellow. John Wayne ain’t got nothing on my fringe game, hell no.
I could take some Pro Wings, make them cool, sell those. The sneaker heads would be like “Ah, he got the Velcros”.
I’m amazed how this song blew up. I remember that I first heard of this song either watching the video first or listening to Live 105 back in September 2012. Regardless, I enjoyed the f**k out of it. Thrift Shop appeared in my Best of last year as it was on my video countdown. It was already big, but come 2013, and it not only became more popular that it originally was, but it became a mega hit and one of the biggest songs in that year. Telling you just that will be an understatement. Thrift Shop has sold over 6 million during 2013, had two million streams in a single week, became only the second independent song in history to top the Hot 100 (First being Lisa Loeb’s Stay (I Missed You) in 1994), and was the #1 song of the year on the Hot 100 year-end chart. In the UK, the song was #1 and sold over 600,000 and in Canada, it was #2 for six weeks straight and sold over 500,000 downloads. It was #1 in other countries like Australia. This song is another example of a sleeper hit. Hell, the song success continue into 2014 as in winning Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song at the Grammies. It was #1 multiple times on my request countdown even at the stage when the song was at its last relevant magic juice. It keep coming back for. Despite only being on my personal countdown for 10 weeks and abruptly dropping out of the countdown from #5, it was #1 and had appear in the Zone in 2012 at the on deck section. I decided late to debut on my countdown. This song was the trend-setter meaning that it had influence more people to take on thrift shopping. The song was good influence because it changed the mindset of some people that you can save money simultaneously looking fresh as possible as you can instead of aspirating to wear expensive labels that many people insist on to feel good about themselves just like rappers showing off that bravado in their music. This is exactly different from typical mainstream rap songs are these days. Macklemore shows off his interest of thrift shopping in the most comedic way. From saying sh!t like buying leopard coats that smell like R.Kelly’s sheets just because it was only 99 cents to asking your grandpa for his hand-me-downs. For Macklemore, it’s better to wear something different by thrift shopping than thriving on buying expensive sh!t that any other ignorant ass would also be wearing since it’s cool to buy the latest and newest (and expensive) sh!t. You probably would’ve found a shirt that is just as good-looking at a cheaper price. Macklemore doesn’t mind wearing clothes that otherwise wouldn’t be masculine like rocking out flannel pajama. He’s fighting the gender stigma of one would identify with clothing and decides to leave the norm and chooses to wear he wants to wear that defines his own identify and the bonus is that he gets to save money while doing it. Macklemore feels it’s better to be original with yourself and by being yourself instead of just relying on your expensive fashion brands that is only for show and by being yourself it might get you with the girls. I enjoyed Macklemore’s rapping. Dude knows how to entertain his listeners and just have fun with it. Ryan Lewis is the mastermind behind the production of this song (and the whole album). Ryan did a great job of making such an infectious beat that got people dancing and enjoying the f**k out of the song since it’s so damn catchy. Ryan knew what kind of sound he was going for and bought it to the table that fit the song’s comedy nature. It also has that funky beat and some kind of instrumental sound that you can’t help to clap along to. Ryan also knows to play the appropriate beats and sound during the song whenever Macklemore phases to talk some sh!t or near the end of the song with that bridge, playing the right notes to draw everything out before the finale. Ryan probably made the beats from those old samplers from the thrift shop because that’s actually fit the context within the song and adds to the funniness of it. This duo knows how to work together to make some kind of magic with extra assistance from the featured artist of the day in this case Wanz. Before this song, no one really knew who he was. He was that indie. This virtually unknown guy was approached to provide the hook for the song and I was impressed by it. Wanz did a great job to be as silly like the song and going along with the tune of the song. A sing-along that is and he ran with it. Poppin’ some tags is so f**king awesome. Excellent work by all three. If you’re wondering who was the kid saying some sh!t in the intro (of the album version) and outro ( heard in the video) of the song, it was Macklemore’s niece. Thrift Shop is that hipster song for sure. The song was so successful because of going against what rappers normally rap about along with an addictive beat and hook that gets stuck in your heads for weeks. Independent music for the win! Big label companies, I got two words for ya…. Suck it! BTW, this song was #1 on my unreleased mid-year countdown and it’s #2 in this countdown.
So who’s #1? And the #1 song of the year goes to………...
1 Radioactive Imagine Dragons
I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones. Enough to make my systems blow. Welcome to the new age, to the new age. Welcome to the new age, to the new age. Whoa, whoa, I'm radioactive, radioactive. Whoa, whoa, I'm radioactive, radioactive.
For the second year in a row, Imagine Dragons has the #1 song on my year-end countdown with I’M RADIOACTIVE! RADIOACTIVE! Imagine Dragons has come from a long way since forming in 2009 and only getting discover in early 2012 as an indie band and broke out with It’s Time. They had three more successful singles, but the one that stood out as the most popular and the most biggest out of all four is Mr. Welcome to the new age right here. I have never even expected Radioactive to not only gain success, but having a better success than It’s Time and just blow that away as a motherf**king juggernaut. One of the major part of that continuously contribute to the success of the song is that it was used in a tons of commercials and trailers that I can’t even name them all. That helped the song get spread to many different audiences and people respond well to it and many even bought the album because of it and helped them to connect with the album’s sound. Let me talk about how great the song sounds. Radioactive creates a bone-chilling vibe that makes you feel powerful by taking all the emotion and intensity of the music. It helps transcends oneself to feel better about themselves and it’s an anthem to thrive to be better and changes one life for the good. It’s an atmosphere of dark, mysterious, haunting, depressive feeling transformed into positive uplifting and spiritual elements. The distorted production quality helps the song to be more crazy than it is and fits with the crazed mix of music to create energy and becoming energetic. The mood of the song has an apocalyptic setting that also has the vibe of a revolution I suppose. I like how the song starts just in a dramatic, isolated and kinda ominous fashion that makes you think some sh!t was going to happen and we’re hearing some kind of exploding out setting before going deep into the dubstep aspect of the music. What I love about the sound in this song is the crazed mix of music found on here and I love when different elements are used since it’s makes the song stand out some more. This song composes the radical and chaotic sound of dubstep, the electronic rock feel now, and alternative rock sound. The song has a great use of heavy drums that gets you pumped up. I really love the infusion of alternative rock, dubstep, and electronic rock that has awaken me into a new, better world. The song was produced by the band themselves and Alex Da Kid. Dan’s vocals bought the song emotion drive of the song. He made his vocals sound so powerful and intense. He knows how to make the song connect to the listener by investing himself to get deep into the song to let it all out and be one with the sound. He wants you to feel what’s he feeling in the song and he did just that. Once, you’re into it, it’s easier to listening along and become the one to give off the powerful message. Dan’s vocals along with the infusion mix are amazing and made the song feel alive and real and cater to many people who like different music. It gives a liking to pop because of the up-lifting chorus. You can bang your head into the heavy drums and the most intense moments of the song. It’s already an alternative rock that fits the trend of electronic sound and pop charm and gives off that alt.rock vibe. You can just appreciate the vibe you get from the electronic rock and dubstep elements of the song.
Actually, I heard a more of a electronic dance version that you can get lost into and get all pumped up. I don’t remember who remix it though. Since I live for diversity, I enjoyed the living f**k out of the song. What’s great about the song is that it can be about anything. It can mean about the setting of a post-apocalyptic and built around that. It can be taken as a revolution. It can used to give off references to a nuclear war and the effects out of it. Or just threats to one like North Korea’s threat to bomb the US. Also it was discovered that NK was testing nuclear bombs and as a result, radioactive gases were escaping the area. Given that annotation, Radioactive sees the problem of the world and the dangers of it or the fear of becoming a wasteland or at least more of a disastrous place to live in. Plus we have some those environmental issues along with political and economic issues. It’s like those things are the radioactive pollution of the world that we‘re are living now and can worse and even become literally just that in the long-term. The wonders about this song is that most of its line can be taken metaphorically and literally. Radioactive also can be seen as standing up to something. Radioactive can be seen as changing your personal life or the social structure of the world. All of the metaphors are there to take your spin of the situation and interrupt on how you want. The video with all the bizarre things going on has the symbolism of one person freeing the captives and the creatures that are suffering from the tyranny of its ruler and the rulers gets its just desserts. Can I bring up the money problem? In the US, the rich and upper class aka the 1% controls most of the nation’s while the rest of people are struggling to keep up and the gap between the rich and poor is extremely large. The US government at times shows signs of violating its citizens rights. The Occupy Wall Street movement is one example of a revolution against how things are run. Standing against something that doesn’t seem right or doing more damage than good. Anywhere else in the world, we have the Russia government wanting to be THE superpower country and wants to run the US out. We already know what Russia did involving Ukraine. The interruption I personally like to use in this song is making a better life for myself and having the confidence in doing despite negative vibes. According to Dan, the song means to him is an empowering song about an awakening and what he mean about that is waking up one day and decide to do something different along with seeing life in new perspective. I like to use this advice. The combination of powerful vocals and the eccentric mix of music help gave strength deep into their bones to the listeners to carry on with the song is really aiming to be. Imagine Dragons are the kings of inspiration. How do I know this song has impact? By hearing from my brother’s friend that a dude in his concept physics class was yelling out radioactive in the tone of the song to him when the dude didn’t know what he was doing regarding the assignment. Now, I want to hear from someone that actually takes the song to heart. It’s appropriate given the context of the song that it’s a global smash. #1 in Sweden and peaking high in most of the charts. In the US, that is where the song was a mega hit. It was (over)played all over mainstream, Hot AC, AC, AAA, and alternative. It was even played a lot in mainstream rock and active rock radio. Why? Just because. Radioactive sold over 5 million downloads in 2013 and is the third best-selling single of the year, it peaked at #3 in the Hot 100 chart, and is the #3 song of the Hot 100 year-end chart. We’re number three! Not in my countdowns. In my request countdown, it was #1 eight times, the most out of every video in the history of countdown and is one of the few videos in 2013 that spend over 20 weeks in the countdown. In my personal countdown, it was #1 six times and spend 34 weeks on the countdown, the most out of any song surpassing It’s Time 32 week run. Speaking of Radioactive its longevity, the song spend get this 87 weeks in the Hot 100 that carried over in 2014 surpassing the great relaxing monster hit I’m Yours for the all-time longevity record and it did that whilst competing with Sail, that 2011 song that had two runs on the chart and became the epitome of a massive sleeper hit known for its own unique extremely unusual longevity that peaked at #17 and spend 79 weeks on the chart in which is the second longest time ever. BTW, I wanted to say that if I had a 2011 year-end, then Sail would’ve been in the top 10 for sure. Radioactive is no stranger to my Best of either since it was in the top 60 last year since it was released as an alt.rock single at the time and back then, I enjoyed the f**k out of it. Now, it’s #1. Speaking of #1, I check the ATRL’s year-end countdown thread and it was at on point going to be #1, but at the end, it was Hold On, We’re Going Home that took that spot which is good since that means ATRL actually knows what they were doing. If I had send in my top 20, then Radioactive would’ve been #1, which would’ve been appropriate anyway. I have never vote for the year-end before. The success and glory for Radioactive continued in 2014 as it won Best Rock Performance at the Grammies. I watched the performance of the song with Kendrick Lamar and it blew me away and the studio version of Radioactive (Remix) was just as great. Times like these just makes me appreciate great music especially done by great artists that do it so well. I see why you guys like to get the feeling of saying your faves over others. As of now, Radioactive sold over 7 million downloads. To note, every ID single and soundtrack songs all at least become a part of the top songs countdown in one shape or form. The only exception was It’s Time which was #1 last year and was #2 in my mid-year. However, It’s Time made my top pop songs countdown so I could say that every ID single and soundtrack song at least became a part of my whole Best of. Let me say something about the singles. It’s Time is song that got Dan out of depression and the song that advocates being comfortable with yourself, Radioactive is the song that sees the problems of the world and gives the strength to stand up, Demons is the song that acknowledges and accepting personal inner darkness within and gives a depressive perspective in life, and On Top of the World is the song that celebrates life and accomplishments and the joys of being on top of yourself. I wish that I could see these (or any one that I like for that matter) guys live. Radioactive is my true #1 song of the year as I try to usher in my own new age.
Finally! I have completed my Best of after delaying it for some long. It’s better than leave it incomplete. That still took a lot out of me since I have was busy with other stuff. I wouldn’t do something like that again, but I still enjoyed recapping all the great sh!t that made my music year. So fun. Thanks to all that stuck me during this whole ride. Please comment on my top 25 and my Best of overall. Did you catch anything or noticing something? What can you take away from this? Did you see some kind of connection? Did you like it as much as I did? How impressed you were? Did you learn something, today?

24/25
I only never really liked "Give It 2 U"
"Safe And Sound", "Blurred Lines", "Royals" & "Radioactive" also appeared on my top 10 of my Best of 2013.
"Radioactive" is amazing, definitely a contender to be my favorite song from this decade.

Afraid is an amazing song! I love Pompeii too, love Dan Smith's voice.
Mirrors is good, Power Trip is great, love the chorus
Give It 2 U is my guilty pleasure lol
Demons grew on me
Lose Yourself To Dance! I love that song, it was my favorite one when I first heard their album
Can't Hold Us
F**kin' Problems! My favorite hip-hop song of 2013
Same Love is not my favorite single from Macklemore, but it's alright, good meaning.
JGMAR got old very fast for me, but it's not bad.
I love "Stay"! My favorite ballad from Rihanna
I like Rap God! Eminem is amazing!
Sweater Weather! Too bad I discovered that song way too late, it's going to be in my 2014's list lol
Safe And Sound is a masterpiece! First heard that song in 2012 and I loved it! Can't believe it became a hit 2 years later lol
Wake Me Up... well.
Royals! My favorite single by a female artist of 2013 of course
Blurred Lines! The hit of 2013, it's too good.
Get Lucky! I really wanted an official music video The song is just amazing.
Thrift Shop! One of my favorite songs from 2012-2013, love it!

Better late than never, so nice to finally see your whole year end recap.
I knew that would be your #1 so glad I wasn't wrong.
Nice to see Lego House and Sweater Weather also making it to your top 10.

I don't like "Radioactive". God, this song really doesn't grow on me. Like many other songs, though.
