An unexpected album to enter my top 40 album list. I only discovered Lykke Li this year. Her style of alternative pop is a very original one. Her music is dream and emotional, however I do find the album slightly monotone which is a reason why the album is so low despite my love for this ethereal type of music.
# 36 | Jolin Tsai - "Pēi (呸; Play)"
My interest in C-pop has grown significantly over the last couple of years. Jolin Tsai has been an artist I've paid close attention to as she is known the Queen of the C-pop territory. While her album doesn't represent her status, it still has amazing tracks such as 'Play' and 'I'm Not Yours' featuring the contemporary queen of J-pop, Namie Amuro.
# 38 | Take That - "III"
The first Take That album to feature in the year-end's album chart. This album is quite Pet Shop Boy inspired with upbeat dance tunes. The album incorporates many elements of euro dance but makes each song unique. "Into The Wild" is my favorite among them, the slightly overrated "Get Ready For It" is a disappointment as many critically snubbed tacks are in fact more powerful.
ZEDD
My love for dance music was introduced by Cascada in 2006 who set the trend of progressive euro dance music, but since adapting their style to a pop formula many artists have incorporated the elements of euro dance in their music. It go to the point where it became generic, however, Zedd's material has got me to appreciate this style all over again. Collaborating with my favorite artists such as Ariana Grande, Matthew Koma and Foxes, Zedd has produced some amazing dance tracks that will become my favorite songs of all time.
BEST DANCE ARTIST OF 2014
KODA KUMI
The diva's in Japan have happened to become uninteresting over the last few years, (excluding Namie from last year). However and unlikely J-pop female solo artist has saved his decline and that is Koda Kumi. Her work ethic is incredible compared to other artists this year. She has not stop releasing throughout the year with incredible music videos with original and diverse choreography. Her music seems to be above par from her efforts over the last couple of years. She has outdone her pop rivals Namie Amuro and Ayumi Hamasaki by a mile this year and I'm really excited to see and hear the new material she releases next year.
#100 | Akdong Musician (AMKU) - "Melted" - This song should be higher!! , but there have been too many good songs this year. A very soppy ballad, but lovely with a showcase of strong vocals.
#99 | HIGH4 - "A Little Closer (f/ Lim Kim" -A cheeky track from HIGH4 who debuted this year. Their vocals are unique and its an addictive little song.
#98 | FEMM - "Whiplash" - Love this electro dance style that FEMM have put to good use. The song is very creative containing alternative elements.
#97 | Ellie Goulding - "Goodness Gracious"- Very interesting dance track with an upbeat melody and nice production.
#96 | AAA - "Love" - Another low entry from AAA, every era is a trend of same sorts of music. Time to switch it up a little. Still a great ballad though
#95 | Nick Jonas - "Jealous" - A rare pop gem from a male artist without it sounding to RnB influenced. Plus Nick sounds sexy in the song
#94 | Maroon 5 - "Maps" - Adam Levine has such a unique singing voice and this song is so sing-a-long.
#93 | Lorde - "Team" - Not really a fan of Lorde but the song is lyrically impressive and it's dark and emotive which I like.
#92 | Ariana Grande - "Love Me Harder (f/ The Weekend)" - One of my favorite songs from her album. Nice vocals from both Ariana and The Weekend.
#91 | Ailee - "Singing Got Better" - A power ballad that gradually builds throughout the song. Ailee's vocals really take ballads to another level. her voice is amazing.
Maps, Team & Love Me Harder are great!
Jealous is one of my biggest guilty pleasures of 2014 Never liked him before or The Jonas Brothers but I've liked all the singles from this era
