For some reason there's an illusion that American service is better because of this and that workers actively have to work harder to get tips. Not this American, if the service is ass, I will pretty much let them know about it and they won't be getting a tip. If it's the chefs fault then I don't blame the server, I will just get the chef to come to my table and tell him he sucks.

I went out to Applebee's for a date on Friday and our waitress was so ****ing nice, she was on point the whole evening, asking when my glass wasn't even near empty for refills and ****, bringing our food out quick, chatting it up, recommending stuff, making sure everything tasted fine, checking up.

The bill was $53 and the 20% tip was $9.59 and the 15% was $7 and change, that bitch got a 10 dollar tip. Why, because I think it's tacky to leave change, and I'm not about to round down to $9 because she was amazing, and deserved it.

US tipping is so daunting my friend told me when his family visited they tipped, but they expect so much more (compared to UK tips) it's almost mandatory that they followed them out the restaurant asking for more

I am a money-struggling student in a great college, for now this is the best job for my schedule. When I graduate, I'll be making hunderds of thousands in my aspiring profession and happily leave my job in the restaurant!

I don't know how you do that. There are plenty of other jobs out there that pay the full hourly minimum wage, you should just look for something else.

Because not every table is as horrible as xtina10 so we do make more money than if we were working off of strictly minimum wage. It is hard work though.

I didn't say I dislike it, I am just informing about how it works
I'm happy getting around $20/hour (!!!) while the majority of my college peers get minimum wage ($7.25)

At my restaurant bussers get $4 an hour. They deserve to get a share because if not for them no one would clean my tables. If there were no bartenders who would make drinks for my tables? We are all a team.
