I feel like the two halves of this quote are saying different things. I'm honestly not sure what exactly she means, because it doesn't make a lot of sense. But I will agree that certain pop artists have followed her lead and tried to be more "avant-garde" in their style.

Yes, but she was talking about the concept of Born This Way long before the song came out. Firework was also not released as a single until about a month after the VMAs, so the majority of people didn't know about it. And don't get me started on re-releasing their album with 8 new tracks + a certain 'be yourself' motto. No shade, just think about it.
