ATRL has been a gay pride parade for over ten years. The slang is relatively new though.
I would say we need to thank (or blame—take your pick) Sats for that one. He arrived like a flaming meteor crashing to Earth in the summer of 2009 and shook things up. I don't remember anyone being so flamboyant or boisterous before him, but he really brought a whole new standard of personality and attitude to ATRL.

Let's just say the ATRL now is different than the ATRL 5 years ago when I joined. It's more about the stans and drama now. ATRL always had stans and drama in here but the ATRL in 2011, stans and drama are the main thing now. As far as speech goes that changed as well. Members now communicate each other with either gifs or ATRL slang. When I joined I did not see that at all. Almost every member used proper grammar.
Also about the whole gay thing, yes this is pop forum so this forum will attract gay member, but keep in mind that not all members are gay. There are a few that are straight. I don't like the generalization where some people think ATRL = gay members. I've noticed this.

I remember 2008's first months: there were no gifs, nor ghetto/gay slang all over. No sis, no gwerl/gworl/gerl/gorl/gurl/gwurl and all of its variations.

That has nothing to with us being gay. The gifs are a phenomenon here. At gayteenforum.org people hardly ever use gifs.
