Plus most companies are heading towards Bluetooth headphones anyway. Analog audio will be a thing of the past soon, just like analog features for home entertainment.

Wall adaptors aren't the only places to charge things through USB ports

Also, not everybody wants to have the issue of charging their headphones before they're able to use them.

That said though it's stupid to remove it altogether, I think they would add capabilities for both before deciding whether to remove the audio jack completely.

If Apple were smart they'd ditch the Lightning port idea altogether and use the headphone jack to charge phones if they wanted to combine them. Then there'd be no problems with people using their current headphones for the device.

HDMI cables only cost like £3-5 though. This will be very expensive and will ram up the price of the devices whilst eating up battery life.

There's nothing wrong with the headphone jack and that's why it is still not in need of any replacement. Remember when phones back in 2006-2007 started using their exclusive headphone jacks? What happened to them? All of them reverted back to the standard, the trusted.

A lightning connector is not any better than their previous connector. It's basically the same but lighter and smaller to fit the iPhone 5 back then which I find convenient to be honest.

The headphone jack is a universal standard, this should not be messed up. I can see this as another exclusive thing for Apple like the lightning connector. No one would follow.

I'm fine with my standard USB and headphone jack port.

And fyi, the HDMI cable was a needed refresh. This one isn't.

But surely people would be smart enough to change their phones before using them.

Anyway, the Audio adapter would work the same way as the HDMI adaptor:


You can charge your device while plugging the cable into the device.

Anyway, people don't really have anything to worry about because Apple are talking about "in a perfect world we would _____" not actually saying "We are getting rid of the Audio jack".

They are just talking about what they could do, not what they are going to do

There are so many reasons this is a bad idea...

A lot of people on car trips rely on charging their phone while listening to to music, obviously this wouldn't work.

Not to mention you'll be extremely limited to what headphones you can use... Instead of having "unauthorized chargers" we'll have "unauthorized headphones".

Apple is trying to monopolize their brand, they don't want you to use any other accessories with their phones outside of what they produce and that's apparent.
