I admit, I've always focused way more on albums than EPs, so my input on this list will not be very illuminating (to say the least), but Aphex Twin is always good for a listen...even if, as you mentioned, I don't feel like this latest EP comes close to reaching the heights of Syro.
Besides ONE amazing song Dawn disappointed me this year Like she didn't even bother doing anything new.
I didn't really like the Kedr one but maybe I should give it another chance.
I actually listened to most of these. I thought January Sun was an album all this time however.
As far as I know it's an EP. Anyway to me that's what it is.

Right? I still have faith he'll do something better soon but for now...

& I got some nice plays from FLANCH and Dawn Richard's.
"you'll like it if you like" is great btw, thanks.
I agree his first EP was better but it has his best song (a.k.a. "Dead"). Also thanks.

idk I felt like 'Redemption' had the bops but also was not as good as 'Blackheart'. Need to give it a proper listen though. Also, yes, you should give it another chance! (if you're into that at least)

Yeah, but that's kinda why I like KAMN.

I think you'll like FLANCH! It's like a mix of both + more hip hop. Maybe you'll enjoy?
#15. GAIKA - 'Spaghetto'
Genre: Experimental Hip Hop, UK Hip Hop, UK Bass, Alternative R&B, Grime, Dancehall
Label: Warp || Country: UK
GAIKA is a very talented producer, singer/songwriter and rapper from Brixton and on his debut EP for the iconic Warp label he mixes a lot of different genres such as Kelela-esque R&B with grime, dancehall, trap, the dystopian hip hop of people like Death Grips or Danny Brown, and the experimental electronic production of Amnesia Scanner, Lotic or Chino Amobi. It's a very weird but at the same time a really fascinating thing to listen to, specially in a post-Brexit world (as the record seems to be related to that).

#14. serpentwithfeet - 'blisters'
Genre: Art Pop, Alternative R&B, Ambient Pop, Chamber Pop, Gospel
Label: Tri Angle || Country: US
To be honest, at first seeing singer/songwriter Josiah Wise, also known as serpentwithfeet, getting signed to the Tri Angle label, one known for releasing dark, twisted aggressive electronic music seemed a bit odd to me. But to say this is regular pop or R&B is totally unrealistic. Sure, it’s hard to deny the Brandy influence, for example, but something about it feels a little harder to explain. It’s also really interesting to hear an artist discussing queer and black topics in such an interesting way, and proves he’s a really promising artist.
You'll like it if you like: Björk, Frank Ocean, Current 93, Brandy Highlights: “Blisters”, “Four Ethers”, “Penance”
#13. DJ Earl - 'Open Your Eyes'
Genre: Footwork, Juke, Acid Techno
Label: Teklife || Country: US
I always wanted to get into footwork but I didn't really knew how to, I sure loved the late DJ Rashad, and the last year's Jlin album was really interesting too, but other than that I was a bit lost. But I was pleasantly surprised when I heard the debut EP from Teklife's DJ Earl, it had a big amount of variety, fun/catchy samples, weird melodies and awesome production, also Oneohtrix Point Never was somewhat involved in this, although it isn't something you'd really notice I still love it.
You'll like it if you like: DJ Rashad, Machinedrum, Jlin, Aphex Twin Highlights: "Smoking Reggie" (feat. Oneohtrix Point Never & MoonDoctoR), "Smoke Dat Green" (feat. Taso)", "Let's Work (feat. Oneohtrix Point Never & MoonDoctoR)", "All Inn (feat. Suzi Analogue)"
#12. clipping. - 'Wriggle'
Genre: Industrial Hip Hop, Hardcore Hip Hop, Power Noise, Trap Rap, Abstract Hip Hop
Label: Sub Pop || Country: USA
I actually like this project more than I liked their album released a few months ago! There's a really cool nod to power electronics (besides the obvious Whitehouse sample on the title track) and black metal on its cover, and I still feel like they work better when they are at their noisiest. It's not perfect, but Daveed Diggs' verses are as great as always, some of their best songs are here.
You'll like it if you like: Death Grips, Danny Brown, Dälek Highlights: "Intro", "Back Up" (feat. Antwon & Signor Benedick the Moor), "Wriggle", "Our Time" (feat. Nailah Middleton)
#11. Lafawndah - 'Tan'
Genre: Art Pop, UK Bass, Alternative R&B, Glitch Pop, Post-Industrial, Zouk
Label: Warp || Country: Iran
Yasmin Dubois had been making music under the name Lafawndah since 2014, the year in which she released her debut self-titled EP. Probably one of the biggest problem with this EP is its length. It’s only 4 tracks long, and I’m sure it’s not even 15 minutes long. ‘Tan’ is her second EP, her first for Warp Records, recorded in Guadaloupe and influenced by Zouk music, and just by looking at its cover, you’d get an idea of how it sounds. However, it would be more than interesting to see what she comes up with on her debut album, and if those songs are a teaser of what’s to come in the future.
You'll like it if you like: FKA twigs, M.I.A., Empress Of, Kelela, ADR Highlights: “Town Crier”, “Tan”, “Crumb”
#10. Bridgit Mendler - 'Nemesis'
Genre: Alternative R&B, Glitch Pop, Trap, Electropop, Art Pop
Label: Black Box || Country: USA
I was skeptical when Bridgit Mendler announced her “reinvention” as an alternative, independent artist. I was afraid she would do emotionless electropop like Halsey or Melanie Martinez – but I was pleasantly surprised to hear this EP. The only reason why I would be disappointed with this because of its length (it’s only 4 tracks and about 13 minutes long), but since this EP was surprisingly good, it makes me feel excited to hear what will Bridgit do in an upcoming follow-up album now that she’s found a sound she sounds totally comfortable with.
You'll like it if you like: Imogen Heap, Kiiara, BANKS, Dido, ANOHNI Highlights: “Atlantis” (feat. Kaiydo), “Do You Miss Me At All”, “Snap My Fingers”
#09. ABRA - 'Princess'
Genre: Synthpop, Alternative R&B, UK Bass, Trap, Freestyle, Minimal Synth
Label: True Panther || Country: UK
Some people's problem with ABRA (whose real name we still don't know, although she calls or called herself the "Darkwave Duchess"), is that her music is way too lo-fi or her vocals are way too subtle for R&B - thankfully, she makes up for that with great songwriting and an excellent ear for hooks, making an EP that's strong from beginning to end. I hope she starts working on her debut (because I feel like 'ROSE' was more like a mixtape or something like that hehe) soon, if it's as good as this then I'm down with that.
You'll like it if you like: Jessy Lanza, Empress Of, Kelela, Molly Nilsson Highlights: “Come 4 Me", "Vegas", "CRYBABY", "Pull Up"
#08. felicita - 'A New Family'
Genre: Bubblegum Bass, Electro-Industrial, Glitch Pop, IDM, Ambient
Label: PC Music || Country: Poland/UK
I always felt like compared to all the PC Music-related producers, felicita was always one of the most underrated. So, first, it's nice to see him getting (properly) signed to the label (even if he already was in the Lipgloss Twins thing), and on this EP we have some of his best songs to date, which have a very club oriented sound yet a very aggressive, industrial edge I rarely ever heard on a track from that collective, so it's pretty cool too. He can go far, I believe.
You'll like it if you like: A. G. Cook, Oneohtrix Point Never, Death Grips, SOPHIE Highlights: “A New Family”, "Coughing Up Pearls", "I Woke Up", "In Three Words"
#07. Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - 'In Summer'
Genre: Ambient, Noise, Hypnagogic Pop, Musique Concrete, Tape Music, Noise Pop
Label: Geographic North || Country: USA
This music is beautiful, but at times it can be kinda hard to listen to, or at least it can be quite confusing and weird. Sometimes, it reminds me of Tim Hecker's 'Virgins', other times it's just glitch-y avant-garde electroacoustic experiments, other times it sounds like a shoegaze epic, sometimes all of these happens on the same track. But for all those reasons is why I find this EP so fascinating to listen to.
You'll like it if you like: Yellow Swans, **** Buttons, My Bloody Valentine, Tim Hecker, early James Ferraro Highlights: "Love's Refrain", "In Summer, "Blue Nudes (I-IV)"
#06. Moro - 'San Benito'
Genre: Latin Electronic, IDM, Post-Industrial, Sound Collage, Murga
Label: NON Worldwide || Country: Argentina
By creating some sort of brand new genre called “Ramba”, Moro in his debut EP ‘San Benito’, tries to reclaim the African heritage of Tango, which is known as the most representative kind of music from Argentina in the world (although, of course there are others, from different parts of the country), as well as Candombe, Murga, and of course, Milonga. it’s also rare to see Argentinian musicians making political music without its message completely taking over the context of the record, its equal parts content and statement, it’s fun and it has a relevant message, and I’m all for it when it works as good as it did here.
You'll like it if you like: The Avalanches, Arca, Elysia Crampton, Amnesia Scanner Highlights: “Arrepientanse”, “Salve Sua Vida”, “San Benito Status… Killed in Action”
