California King Bed was a major disappointment, but I dont blame Def Jam, I blame radio. Its digital sales were incredible for 18 million AI. Even when it has 5 million AI, it was still Top 50 on iTunes.
Wasn't it performed on both American Idol and the Country Music Awards as a big duet? Both are huge. The fact that it couldn't crack the Top 30 on iTunes after that is majorly disappointing.
I don't think EW are saying that Katy is really above Gaga and Beyoncé, exactly. I just think they mean that Katy did well for Katy while Bey and Gaga underperformed compared to 2008/2009.
Ah yes well nonetheless I'm glad that Bey n GaGa stayed true to themselves n didn't try and sell out and follow the trends just to get some more #1's and got sum decent critical acclaim out of it esp Bey.
Nicole has a point. IWG has been a poor-seller IMO, & sales are what is holding it back on the Hot 100. #7 is nice & all but it could've done way more damage than it did. Many other song's eclipsed it. I don't think she lost this summer though.
Man Down did decently but it wasn't enough. California King Bed did meh but Rihanna is capable of 20x more.
Can't think of other losers.
Nicki Minaj should be listed as a winner. Super Bass was/is a huge sleeper smash.
Teenage Dream has also been out for more then a year, and had FIVE HUGE #1 Singles. You would think that people would eventually catch on that she has an album out by now.

It went Top 30 after American Idol. It jumped from no where to Top 30 and I think thats impressive, especially with no radio help.
How so?
Her album and singles underperformed compared to her last era (Like Bey and Gaga) so she deserves a mention.
I think you mistook my comment as something else.

No, I agree, but the poster said that 4 sold more...

Ppl must be still buying the Teenage Dream single thinking they're gettin the album.
Even though Gaga only toured for the first few months this year, her tour still pulled in, what, $64,000,000?
Gaga was named the most powerful celebrity and one of the most powerful women.
She earned $90,000,000.
Debuted with 1.1 million in the US alone.
Katy's got five #1s, yet was outsold by Gaga in a month.

I agree. Britney is a poor digital seller. Impossible by Shontelle sold more than Hold It Against Me, and HIAM was #1. Its like the first #1 single in a long time to not go multi-platinum. The only decent sales are of "Till the World Ends". "I Wanna Go" has Britney's biggest AI and is gonna go #1 on Pop - the only single to do so, and the album isnt selling so you would think that at least she'd have digital success a la Katy Perry, but I Wanna Go doesnt look like it will even go multi-platinum.

My gut reaction was to say "Avril really flopped, Bey and Gaga just underperformed," but then I remembered that Avril sold kind of well internationally. Has her album passed a million?
